Why are you all so butthurt? Listen to me: a cold war is literally a turbo-mode for humankind technological evolution. During a war or cold war resources are allocated more towards research and military other than stupid domestic society and welfare programs. If you think about it: computer networks and other major leaps in technology, almost everything we have today as the current state of technology is a direct result of intense funding and research during cold war times. Before that almost every technological advance came from WW2 times. What have we achieved since then? Yes, a few rovers landed on Mars but other than that we seem to just be focusing on facebook / twitter and SJW bullshit. Yes, people suffer from a cold war because the government allocates resources more towards the military and research, but that's fine by me, fuck the people, the world is over-populated as it is anyway. It's time to think as a species and advance our technology even if it means to sacrifice the standard of living for some of our people.
I would absolutely love to see a cold war between the US and China/Russia, there would be countless, COUNTLESS, new technological advances, everything, from AI to microchips, to quantum computers would see an enormous leap, competing space stations and probably moon bases. Also: without an incentive to the US, the government won't make a Mars-colony anywhere near a priority. JFK didn't order to go to the moon because that's cool, but because he got his ass kicked by USSR, without a cold-war competition there are no incentives to spend the extreme resources necessary to achieve extraordinary things. The only thing is that the US would be at a massive disadvantage this time with all its debt. The status-quo is simply not as good anymore as it was in the 50s after WW2 when the rest of the world was in ashes compared to an untouched US economy and Operation Paperclip brought the most brilliant scientists to the US.
