But I'm not disappointed, I knew this monitor was shit when I bought it years ago. But before that I had tried three other monitors which were more expensive than this one which had even bigger problems like extremely uneven backlight and eventually I just got tired of returning monitors to the post office so I just kept this one, even though it has two subpixel errors.

On this page, directly from that image in the OP, the flicker I notice on 7b.
If I go to the Lagom webpage itself and view the exact same image (it should be the same) then the flicker is noticed with 1, 3, 5 (barely), and 7a.
Weird. Been wanting to get my display calibrated properly with an actual pro tool at some point. Using the calibration stuff in OSX to do it doesn't seem to make as much difference as I'd hope. And yes I have Firefox set to v4 rendering so it's 'accurate' at least based on other testing.
Gamma on this seems to be a bit off as well.

The only explanation in this thread is completely wrong bullshit.
The reason why it flickers is because pixels on TFT displays are driven by a rectangular voltage (meaning the voltage is rapidly changing from, say, 1mV to -1mV and back). It shouldn't make a visible difference whether a pixel has the voltage 1mV or -1mV, but usually it does a little. To make this less noticeable, displays are arranged in a way that two pixels with the same polarity are never next to each other, so that the effects cancel each other out visually.
For example, pattern three is a checkerboard pattern of magenta and green. If you look at the subpixels you have[1 0 1] [0 1 0] [1 0 1]
[0 1 0] [1 0 1][0 1 0]
...
So it's really just every second subpixel that's "on". In many cases you have exactly all subpixels with the same polarity on, but different arrangements are possible,usually with alternating subpixels, so the most common ones should be 3, 4a, 4b, 7a, 7b.
