Whenever I try to make a gif, regardless of what I set it as- It will always come out as 10-15 fps (even if i set it as 5 or 30 fps.)
I've tried multiple programs and it happens with each one.
Would there be some sort of problem with chrome (despite being able to view other gifs at their native frame-rate fine) or would it be my computer at fault?

How can i connect an HDD from my old laptop to my new laptop?

My old laptop cannot be charged anymore, but it's not worth repairing that old thing. I have some data left on its HDD. How can i save this Data? I guess i would have to remove the HDD from the device and externally connect it to my new Laptop. I could propably do the removing part on my own, but what about the rest?
>>
>>53947712
Unless your old laptop is ancient, you'll need some sort of SATA to USB adapter

Put it in an enclosure and plug it in via USB.

Reposting question from previous thread, like I do since week, but still hoping somebody would reply.

What are the latest stable drivers for Nvidia GTX660?

When I had GTX460 I had to stick to 314.22 due to newer drivers causing BSOD.

Now I run with situation I have to try using newer drivers, but I dont know, which version is safe. Is latest 364.72 safe? Or 362.00?

One person in previous thread gone with "get new card" but that answer is silly. How would that suppose to fix the problem.

Guess this is a good place to ask. I saw some article about how speakers set up to be used with ipods took a smaller stereo cable than others and it causes strange problems. Appearantly there are adapters to fix this.

http://www.amazon.com/sony-mhcec909ip-system-discontinued-manufacturer/dp/b003gzdb1q?tag=isthisnice-20

I'm getting audio out of mainly one speaker with these and I know the problem isn't the speakers or the cord i'm using, is there any other cause for this?

Which will get me better results for video capture from a pc in terms of quality (delay isn't a concern but I'd like a feed of what I'm recording on my second monitor).
Software capture, external capture card, internal capture card, (any of the previous on separate computer).

Since my specs probably matter:
Phenom ii x4 965 black OC to 3.7Ghz
24GB DDR3 RAM (2x4GB+2x8GB) at 1600
R9 380 4GB
I'll be recording to a 7200rpm HDD most likely

I intend to record my first playthrough of Dark Souls 3 on highest settings so I'd like to know what sort of resources each option uses; I don't anticipate DS3 using a whole lot of processing power, maybe 60-85%.

not the one you responded to
But I opened your gif in GIMP and the time every frame is shown at was reported to be 0ms.
When a gif is displayed at 0ms speed, the browser will slow it down to a certain default value, because it can't play that fast.
I changed the time per frame to 30ms in this picture, it should play faster

it's 10fps.
I'd just export all single images and then make a gif using ffmpeg.

>>53948065
Like >>53948056 said, capture cards are a waste for most people, but it really depends on your specific needs
>>
>>53948066
Why because it's old/outdated or something else?
I only overclocked it yesterday, I'm trying to hold out until later this year when the next wave of processors come out since my only options at the moment are somewhat pricey Intel setups and I'd rather get something hefty to carry me another 3-6 years if I'm going to do that kind of spending.

Only time it reached 100% at stock clock was in GTA5 under specific circumstances, but even then there's no noticeable loss in performance.

>Only if you constantly have to search stuff with a dot is it useful
Most search engines don't care about punctuation. You could do "search.with.dots" or "search with dots" it's the same thing.
>>
>>53948169
>>53948165
>the url bar searches as well. Only if you constantly have to search stuff with a dot is it useful
not only that but I constantly use it for quick notes or copy+paste something from a site and search it later or use it in another tab etc
>>53948199
but you can't search "search.with.dots" in the address bar, that's what he meant
>>
>>53948182
Well the 2x8GB should be arriving today and I don't have anything to cram the 2x4 into so I figure "fuck it."
I did use autocad back in school and I've actually had some ideas for junk I could "sketch" (or whatever the proper term is) lately; so it opens up that as an option.
>>
>>53948227
>but you can't search "search.with.dots" in the address bar, that's what he meant
I know, but it will return the same results regardless of whether you include dots or not.
>>
>>53948273
>I know, but it will return the same results regardless of whether you include dots or not.
yeah but if you don't have the search bar and only the address bar you can't copy paste something with dots and search it, you'd have to remove the dots

I bought a new PC case yesterday, put all the parts from my old case into the new case, and everything worked fine, boots up fully. Everything except the USB ports, which aren't working. I've checked the drivers, everything is fine. I know theres probably a multitude of reasons why this could happen, but does anyone have some solutions?
It's probably worth nothing that, while the mouse and keyboard don't work, the mouse laser does light up. And also, I have a PCI-E USB 3.0 card, I plugged the front case USB 3.0 ports into it, and those didn't work either. Because of this I'm thinking it might be software based? I'm not entirely sure, but any help would be appreciated.

overwrite with shred or dban, check smart data, if bad sectors > 0: there may be a few kilobytes of sensitive data. You can take them apart and do fun stuff with the platters and magnets. Be careful with glass platters. They are nearly flawless so there is no point for it to break and relieve stress when bent. The whole thing will explode into tiny shards.

For anyone intersted in this,
I have narrowed the problem down to ClearType fucking with the narrow Helvetice Neue font.
I tried changing the cleartype options. That caused the Helvetica Neue font to look good, but everything else looked ugly.
My solution to this was to delete the narrow Helvetica neue font from my system. Now all those instances default back to Arial or something and are perfectly readable.

Hey /g/ I fell for the SSD meme today

why?
copied testfiles from my HDD to the SSD
80mb/s tops (got limited by my HDD so this is ok)
then I tried copying those files from A to B on the SSD itself, 120mb/s tops
isn't it supposed to be a bit faster than that?

We're stuck in 2009.

CPU/RAM performance has not gone up much since. CPUs have gotten smaller and consume less power but that's about it.

Would zen even support ddr4 memory? Will the mid-end motherboards be any good i.e. quad sli/cf support + overclocking + ram OC + usb 3.1 gen2/usb c for like $150 like the asus z170a? Please respond

>>
>>53950181
I tried that, thanks.

I solved it by plugging it to a different PC, the initial one could've had conflicting IP adresses, but ipconfig /release and /renew didn't help... Whatever

I just used terminal on the other PC and set passwd root through that one, now I can connect to 192.168.1.1 just fine from the initial one

Yes.

It depends on the manufacturers, but it's very likely.

What CPU generation will finally compel me to upgrade my rig?

CPU: i5 2500K
GPU: 980 x2
RAM:8gb
boot drive: 32gbssd
Storage: 1tb WD blue
Monitor: Acer predator z35

basically I see no reason to upgrade my system save for maybe more ram.

So what CPU generation will make me finally upgrade?
>>

>>

Go on my friend...

(Originally everything was on the blue and I just had this SSD laying around so I set it up to boot then was like, might as well use the blue for storage)
>>
>>53950521
prolly none. If you don't count ZEN, latest cpu's are all about the botnet (forced win10) and barely about performance.

It depends on how you use your PC, but it looks like you're gonna need a couple more TB in the near future.

8GB of RAM + whatever VRAM you got is enough to go around for a few more years if you ask me.

best way to access my music on my computer from my iOS phone? I know of google play music, but can't really afford (timewise) to upload ~30GB of music on my 1.0 mb/s upload connection

i downloaded subsonic (which is essentially a server you set up, kinda like a program called Ampache)

this is working out, kinda, the only problem is I can't find a good iOS app to access this server (most on the appstore are outdated or broken)

was wondering if i had any other solutions that im not aware of yet
>>
>>53950489
That's kind of reassuring. I was just so hyped about building a new rig I convinced a friend of mine to buy one. I set it up for him (for free) just so I can ease the stress of not building one for myself. The fact that he's extremely happy about it isn't good in this respect.

I haven't had any experience with AMD cpus/motherboards, are they usually pricier than mainstream intel motherboards? I ask because I take it that the volume is pretty low relatively and that may drive up the costs. Skylake was so disappointingly underwhelming desu.

>>53950521
Not skylake. I'm not sure intel is going to bump up their mainstream processors to 6 cores. I mean come on, only 4 cores and a new socket every year? An i7 is practically just an i5 with hyperthreading. If I had a stable setup I'd just buy something every month or so. Liquid cooling, pcie ssd, different/faster/lower latency ram, raid configuration/bay, yadda yadda. Too bad I'm stuck with a shitty motherboard/cpu until possibly next year.
>>
>>53950575
Yeah and this. Just what the fuck did I read about newer intel cpus only being supported only on windows 10 and not anything older?

>>
>>53950608

Yeah I read this too. I think it's because Moore's Law isn't sustainable and Intel can only have incremental upgrades to CPU's anymore (seeing as how they ditched the Tick-Tock pacing). So they're banking on software being a big enough incentive for people to upgrade.

Shit is terrible.

What would be the best router for home use? Willing to pay extra for good features but they need to be useful and have an application not just sit there doing nothing.

Do they make open-source router firmware/software as well? Because I'm sick of this fucking proprietary firmware that has disgusting UI, hard to navigate, features all over the place, etc, etc.

#!/bin/bash
echo "Write exit to return to terminal"
echo "Give an username: "
read name
while [ "$name" != "exit" ]
do
numep=`getent passwd $name | cut -d : -f 1`
if [ "$numep" == "$name" ]
then
numecomplet=`getent passwd $name | cut -d ":" -f 5 | cut -d "," -f 1`
echo "User complete name: $numecomplet"
nrp=`ps -eo user=| sort | uniq -c | awk -F" " '{if ("$name" == $2) print $1}'`
echo "Number of processes: $nrp"
echo "The given user runs the next commands:"

ps -u $name
echo "Give an username"
read name
else
echo "An user with this name does not exist"
echo "Give an username"
read name
fi
done

So everything runs perfectly except this line

nrp=`ps -eo user=| sort | uniq -c | awk -F" " '{if ("$name" == $2) print $1}'`

So when I try to get the number of processes for the current user, echo displays nothing. The thing is that if i only paste the code, without allocating the print from awk to nrp, and change $name to , let's say, my current username, and run it in terminal, the line works as expected.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

If you have a mac, use target disk mode:

Hold the letter T while booting and the whole computer will pretend to be an external hard drive. Then plug the firewire or thunderbolt ports into your new computer, and any internal drive will appear on your desktop. (You need a special cable to do this with USB or ethernet.)

I tried to follow a guide to enable access to this file but I think I've fucked up the permissions or what the fuck I don't know

All I want to do is run the program

I only have one account, an admin account, on this PC

Is there a way to completely remove the file from the system and start over

Been using Windows for years and years and never been blocked off from a file like this before

>Windows folder on W10: 16.6GB
>Windows folder on W7:30 or 60 or something...
Why the difference? I would have switched back but I only have a 120gb SSD...

Using ffmpeg is there any way of telling it to use different bitrates/bitrate targets at different times in the video. For instance if i have a large video with stuff I really only care about audio in, then a bit where video quality is extremely important. Then just audio again. But I still want it to be playable as a continuous file. No codec requirements.

Can this be done using Libav?
Are there other alternatives?
