My VM has a GPU passthrough, no performance lost. And it only needs to be running when I need to run a program that does not run on GNU/Linux. 90%+ of what I do can be done only in GNU/Linux, and GNU/Linux does those things better than windows does.

>no performance lost
Yes, there is performance lost. Passthrough is still running your machine to block that PCI slot and then pass it through to your VM. Through any act of virtualization there is always performance loss.

90% of what you do, which is nothing, not 90% of what everyone does. Hence windows being useful for much more than just gaming, and Linux being useless for much more than just gaming.

And yet it's still there, under a normal multi GPU system, one to run the X server under and the other isolated with vfio and routed to the VM, there's a 5-10% performance loss. If you are rendering a video, or running stress test benchmarks using a Windows only API (directx comes to mind), that performance loss is extremely wasteful and potentially harmful to the result.

Refer to my previous comments on virtualization layers, that applies here too. Wine runs a terrible "implementation" of DirectX libraries and will never compete in performance. Adobe premiere won't be able to render off of your GPU for example, which is a more than huge issue for any editor.

In regards to DAWs, connecting external instruments, jacks and other items neccesary for music production is largely unsupported on Linux, let alone passing through Wine.

Yeah, I already commented on that too. Passthrough yields a 5-10% performance loss varying setup to setup which is largely wasteful for any professional. Besides, a VM using Windows is still Windows, proving my point that Windows is useful for more than just games.

>you do know that pros use macs to do most of the shit you are saying.
OSX does have implementations of DAWs, however most video editors use Windows due to the largely available amount of hardware there is; they're not constrained to the proprietary hardware macbooks/iMacs are shipped with.

>you do also know that for someone who just wants to play games this doesn't matter right?
Yes. This isn't relevant, at all. I'm not talking about any one person in particular, I'm talking about the merits of an operating system.

>Can you stop being autistic about something that does not effect you.

so like what an extra 5-10 minutes rendering a video

>so like what an extra 5-10 minutes rendering a video
Not even close. Even if you could emulate the encoding options available only to Windows, rendering a video using your CPU compared to a good top market GPU is huge. Being able to push all of the power needed from the GPU means better heat management with larger surface area and heatsinks/water cooling solutions and others.

>there is always a hackintosh
A hackintosh has to use a pirated/unofficial "distro" of OSX, which has the driver files (kext files) planted into the OS. Because of that, you aren't going to get official support for your hardware and most applications of it aren't going to work.

Again, if you have an actual point to make, feel free anytime.

No, they don't. Trackpad drivers, touchscreen and multi touch are hard enough to get working correctly. You are going to have a hell of a time attempting to get any non official hardware working on OSX, especially on a cracked, older and less functional version of it.

>So, when was the last time you went for official support for your computer
I'm using proprietary nvidia drivers right now.

>you could just use gpu pass through
Which results in a performance loss. Wasting your hardware entirely for no reason is not only a poor use of the hardware, but also a waste of money.

>>53945634
>no
That's not an argument. You can't prove anything with that. You know that virtualization does result in a significant performance loss no matter the method if you're at all versed on the methods of passthrough. That obviously is a waste of money, 10% of your hardware lost for no good reason, at all.

>that does not answer the question
The question was when I last went for official support. I have officially supported drivers for my nvidia GPU right this very second that I'm using to run two monitors and the X11 display system. So yes, it does answer the question.

>you said apps not hardware
What? I never mentioned applications in that context. If you misread, I said applications of your hardware are not going to work, IE editing, media creation or even video games, are not going to work on a hackintosh without the normal official hardware you'd get from a mac anyway, which is a select range of nvidia cards and most intel CPUs. Anything else will cause huge issues attempting to actually _use_ your hardware, as people do.

you give the vm direct access to the gpu, there is little performance loss

>The question was when I last went for official support. I have officially supported drivers for my nvidia GPU right this very second that I'm using to run two monitors and the X11 display system. So yes, it does answer the question.

macs don't come with a 980ti but have performance in par with windows

>you give the vm direct access to the gpu, there is little performance loss
No, you actually don't. You pass it through layers of virtualization.

>you said you will get on official support for hardwere
Which you will if you use the official hardware. Like I said, I'm using proprietary officially supported nvidia drivers. I'm running Linux.

And that video is a nvidia/intel, like I said. OSX OEM hardware comes packages with that specific combination, make a hackintosh out of anything else and you no longer get fully working, supported and functioning drivers or interfaces.

Don't believe this hooligan

Openbox is a great and practical window manager with stellar support for standard behaviours, and its source code is very clean and hackable even for an amateur programmer. I highly recommend using openbox as your X window manager alongside other quality X software like urxvt and tint2. There's no better way to make a quality desktop. Openbox rice is, without a doubt, the best linux rice on the block.

no lol and I have never hugged any of them.
I read in a body language book once that British people touch each other something like 50x less than Americans.

it would be way too embarrassing to hug them or tell them I love them; but I think we still all love eachother in our hearts.

I don't think I have ever told anyone I loved them, and the only people I hugged was my friend when we were drunk and my counsellor a few times because she made me. How about you Yuuji?
