My VM has a GPU passthrough, no performance lost. And it only needs to be running when I need to run a program that does not run on GNU/Linux. 90%+ of what I do can be done only in GNU/Linux, and GNU/Linux does those things better than windows does.

Yes, there is performance lost. Passthrough is still running your machine to block that PCI slot and then pass it through to your VM. Through any act of virtualization there is always performance loss.
90% of what you do, which is nothing, not 90% of what everyone does. Hence windows being useful for much more than just gaming, and Linux being useless for much more than just gaming.

Refer to my previous comments on virtualization layers, that applies here too. Wine runs a terrible "implementation" of DirectX libraries and will never compete in performance. Adobe premiere won't be able to render off of your GPU for example, which is a more than huge issue for any editor.
In regards to DAWs, connecting external instruments, jacks and other items neccesary for music production is largely unsupported on Linux, let alone passing through Wine.

Not even close. Even if you could emulate the encoding options available only to Windows, rendering a video using your CPU compared to a good top market GPU is huge. Being able to push all of the power needed from the GPU means better heat management with larger surface area and heatsinks/water cooling solutions and others.

A hackintosh has to use a pirated/unofficial "distro" of OSX, which has the driver files (kext files) planted into the OS. Because of that, you aren't going to get official support for your hardware and most applications of it aren't going to work.

And that video is a nvidia/intel, like I said. OSX OEM hardware comes packages with that specific combination, make a hackintosh out of anything else and you no longer get fully working, supported and functioning drivers or interfaces.

Openbox is a great and practical window manager with stellar support for standard behaviours, and its source code is very clean and hackable even for an amateur programmer. I highly recommend using openbox as your X window manager alongside other quality X software like urxvt and tint2. There's no better way to make a quality desktop. Openbox rice is, without a doubt, the best linux rice on the block.
