I'm doing it.

I'm installing Arch. How fucked am I already? I'm downloading the base system right now.
>>
You're going to realize that you have to download and configure the packages on your own, and then eventually give up.

Of course not.

I'm going to run it in seamless mode on vbox. Pretty similar to running it natively, right?...

Also, what bootloader would you suggest? GRUB?
>>
>>53940565
>Pretty similar to running it natively, right?...
Not really but no big deal.

GRUB is what I use but I'm autismal so I purge systemd as soon as possible. If you don't care about that gummiboot will work fine.

i use gnu/arch-i3 it really is your only options.

i started using it to try it, i really cant stop. as you can see i havent configured much, i only recently got around to making my user account SUDO (since it wasnt automatic) is way faster and takes advantage of my hardware way more, i have quadraphonic harmon kardon speakers in my laptop that were greatly gimped by beats by dre software, no longer problem for me. :]

embrace it :D

Well, I don't want to take over the thread with my autism, but in short I think systemd is becoming a second kernel. Not in as many words, but by gobbling up every system-critical task in userspace that's what it becomes.

I'm not suckless-tier but I do think there should be a closer adherence to the Unix philosophy than "lel let's recreate svchost".

>>53940714
Why not use Cygwin or that new Ubuntu subsystem? Seems more convenient even if it's kinda gimped.

systemd wants to be an OS.
It is raping the system, and dev's are too lazy to take a stand against it. It was a good idea in the beggining, but now it is usurping one proccess at a time.

What the fug is grub-bios
Just install grub and it does the right thing automatically.
>>

Did you grub-mkconfig?

Yeah.
>>
>>53940405
Is there one of these for Gentoo or does it generally apply to any barebones Linux distro?
>>
>>53940814
All I can guess is that grub-bios is the legacy version of GRUB. Whether I install on MBR or EFI systems I just use the package grub.

Last month i installed arch for the lulz. I thought it would be fun and all. Started by reading FAQ, guides and everything on the wiki.
After I plugged my Rufus pen drive on USB, it would be a piece of cake i said.

I couldnt be more wrong. I suffered to configure the keyboard (lol at i typed latin as the wiki and realized what i did), failed to set up wireless properly, had to start all of it again, just to stuck at partitioning using commands instead of a gui / text guid, and finally it worked! i rebooted the system, had the stick taken off and tried to access the wire...less but then i noticed i should had downloaded dialog during installation. then i started all of it again. it was ok this time, i already did lots of stuff and learned a lot. but for some reasong xorg didnt work when i installed it. the wiki didnt mention some sutff it was needed and then i did a fresh install again.

after two days of hard work, everything was set up. working like a charm. until i tried to configure eduroam. i gave up. :(

>>53941795
if it doenst come perfect it needs to be started again....

or even i didnt knew what is chroot. it was my first time installing something from the core. never managed directories that way and i still learning. it is a good experience.

i succeded at doing lots of things and im proud of myself. (but im moving to some other distro because i dont have time to install arch on a new notebook all over again)
