r9 380 or 380x

Fall for the 970 meme. They over clock reel nice.
>>
Are you looking for a holdover until Polaris/Pascal, or do you intend to use whatever you get for the foreseeable future?
>>
>>53935100
I don't have the money for that.
>>
>>53934918
get an AMD card dude, maybe an r9 380 is probably the closest to $200
>>
>>53935168
I intend to use this for at least a few years.
>>
>>53935168
Polaris turned out to be a massive failure already

750 ti isn't much of an upgrade over your 560 ti. you would be throwing money away.

a 380x would give you the biggest upgrade over it in that price range.

if you want a true upgrade grab a 390 / meme 970 or go full jew and grab a glorious 980 ti and overclock that 2500k to 4.2ghz+.

typical nvidiots ignore the pricerange stated and tell you to just buy the GPU they have. Don't you kids have a COD match to play?

Wow. You're right. I'll check out the 380x real quick
>>
>>53935243
I'm assuming I should go with the MSI version?
>>
>>53935190
Then I'd avoid the 750Ti, unless you can:

Get it super fucking cheap. Like, $90 or less cheap.
Get one of the models with a 6-pin.
Get one of the models with a good cooler.

At that point, you edit the vBIOS so that it doesn't throttle itself on the power limit for no good reason, and also overclock it on top of that.

Chances are you're not going to make the stars align like that, so consider other options.
>>
>>53935404
I think I may go with what anon stated above the 380x.
>>
>>53935446
Should I get the 4gig or just get the 2gig version? I'm assuming 4....
>>
>>53935473
i would go with the 4gb. newer games are now are hitting a little over 2gb usage at 1080p.
>>
>>53935446
380x should be a good fit. Go fer it.
>>
>>53935524
Would I need to upgrade my power supply before installing a 380? I heard newer cards actually use a little less power
>>
>>53935611
whats your current power supply make and model?
>>
>>53935631
Its 650 W but I can't remember the make/model nor can I see it T_T
>>
>>53935666
a 650 should be plenty. if its from a repeatable manufacturer and you have been using it this long it should be good to go.
>>
>>53935565

Alright anons looks like I'm going for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127878

Appreciate all the help guys!
>>
>>53935690
Seems breddy gud. I've recommended my friend a 390 and he has had no issues with his. Pretty great performance.

He's got an XFX though, I believe they are very reliable. but Asus should be fine.
>>
>>53935723
MSI, I mean't.
Polite sage.
>>
>>53935690
i would go with this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202183&ignorebbr=1

its only $15 more but gives you a nice boost thats worth it and the sapphire nitro is a fantastic cooler design. vrms are connected straight to the heatsink instead of a heatplate like the msi.

Lol, a little too late already made the purchase! I don't even have a 1080P monitor right now and its gunna be a little while before I can afford one anyways so I don't think the difference will be bad.

>interestingly the compubench entry for Polaris 11 is showing performance that’s 1/3 that of the R7 370, likely as a result of the test chip running at its idle clock speed. So it’s not going to be a very reliable indicator of how the GCN 4.0 architecture performs.
even the poo in the loo understands that

You got some decent advice in the thread.

One thing that was missing, though. AMD 380 & 390 cards use a lot more power than a GTX 950 or GTX 960. And, you didn't list your PSU.

So, do keep in mind that GTX 950 generally runs ~110-130 watts at stock and up to ~150-ish if you push overclocking. A GTX 960 will be ~10-15 watts higher.

The r9 380 tends to be a 200 watt card. So make sure to check you PSU specs because you might have to consider a PSU upgrade.

The other detail not mentioned is that the 750 cards mostly don't handle DirectX 12; most top out at DX11. So, if you for some reason look at those again (which you shouldn't), make sure you don't gimp yourself on the DX you think you'll need.

This leads to: if the AMD is too pricey and too power hungry, look at the GTX 950 cards. They are mad powerful for low budget & are all DX12 ... in addition, they can be SLI'd for potential future upgrade path should you be able to in ~8 months when prices will be lower.

Overall, if you can swing a powerful AMD r9 380 -- AND -- you are positive you will stay on Windows and not need linux compatibility, definitely go with the 380 and look for one you can overclock. It will be at the top end of your stated budget, but for a Win gaming GPU it's hard to beat, if not impossible. Win10 looks like it's going to be a very efficient gaming platform for AMD GPUs, so keep that in mind and research it against your needs.

Last FYI, this vcard:

was just on sale for $180 & free shipping with a $20 rebate. Unfortunately, that just closed ... but if you can shop around and wait, that is a fuckload of GPU for $160. Low power draw and lots of OC potential if you can get it anything under $170. Plus easier linux if that means anything to you.

I don't really want to start a new thread for this, so here we go.

I got a few years old GTX 660TI EVGA 2GB and it's been working flawlessly, until now. For some reason whenever it's under heavy load its temperature goes super quickly up to about 100-105 degrees celsius. I've cleaned the case several times and the airflow is good. So what could be the problem?
>>
>>53936438
paste probably tried up.
>>
>>53936238
the 560 ti has a similar power draw to that of a 380 so hes fine.

he also did state his psu later on and its a 650 watt. more than plenty.
>>
>>53934918
Hd 7950 or 7970
>>

Shit, I don't have any at home. Oh well. Thanks for the help!

750ti superclocked edition is da shit bruh, $110, will do anything 1080p, good fps with good effects, not to mention showplay is boss

Why buy a new GPU now when Pascal cards are just a few months away?

Won't they be ridiculously expensive at release?
