Living in the UK and thinking of changing ISP's. Who are you guys with?
>>
>>53932154
Do not move to VirginMedia. Such violently shit upload limits.
>>
>>53932154
unless the contention ratio is different, the price is cheaper or they have a different back-haul network - what's the point?

it's not as if you're going to magically get better copper to the cabinet
>>
How about you check speeds in your local area fucking pleb
>>
>>53932759
It's roughly the same.
>>53932742
Would like faster upload
>>
>>53932780
Exactly senpai it's like that everywhere
>>
Sky and I have about 1/10th of your speeds
They're also throttling niggers so fuck them
>>
>>53932780
if you're on a 40/10 package then maybe switching to 80/20 would help

but then if you're too far from the cabinet you're not going to get any faster than 37/8 regardless

or you could fork out for FTTH or FTTPoD but they're usually a 5-year contract assuming BT OpenReach have lifted the pause on installations
>>
>>53932826
Yeah, I'll have to check. I'm pretty sure the cab is right behind my house but I don't know how long the run is to my house.
>>
>>53932154
8Mb/s is pretty good for upload in the Uk, your download is shit tier though.
What are you supposed to be getting on your plan?
>>
>>53932872
It's supposed to be a 40/10. It's bundled with a landline package. I have no complaints about my downstream, but I do a lot of server huge uploads and they take ages.
>>
Boost, it's a prepaid carrier in the US. They give me 8GB for mobile hotspot which is enough for checking email or reading news on my laptop. I have unlimited lte on my phone so I watch youtube/netflix there. That's it, I don't have home internet because I don't need it anymore desu.
>>
>>53932866
or move to somewhere with a community fibre project so you get 1Gbps symmetric for £50 a month then get frustrated because web servers and torrent wotsits are too slow for you

Forgot, here's a speedtest.
>>
>>53932888
I think you might be shit out of luck mate.
Unless you can move into one of the rare Gigabit buildings we got, most of which are down in that London.

The best possible upload speed in the uk on standard fibre is 19Mb/s iirc.
>>
>>53932919
Apparently my community is enabled for fibre optic. Torrents aren't too slow tho. I have a 10Gbps remote seedbox and do my downloading/uploading through FTP.
>>53933036
>19Mb/s
19 megaBITS? or bytes? That's pretty good for a home connection.
>>
>>53933154
19 megabits, not bytes.

Maybe you should buy one of the 19 megabit per second upload plans then?
AFAIK BT sells the most reliable one, with TalkTalk offering another but with managed limits, and EE offering a third that I don't know anything about.
>>
>>53933424
TalkTalk seem too cheap to be true but I had a mate that was on their plans and their outages and dropouts were ridiculous.
>>
>>53933475
TalkTalk are the same company as BT.

They're running off the same network and the same management, they just cut corners everywhere to make it more affordable.

They haven't. Or at least that's what I was told by one of BT's Rajeshes this week when investigating it.

Been house-hunting and was about to pull the trigger on a place before discovering it's FTTC only and in pretty much the only area in town that's not also covered by Virgin. Noped out faster than the speed of light.

No they fucking aren't you cretin.

OP's best bet is to ensure using same modem type as the cab he's connected to - btw we're talking marginal gains. Bottom line is likely to be your copper ain't up to more speed.
Could try a reseller that uses Talk Talk's network but never touch Talk Talk themselves.

Fuck me you're right, I was thinking of Plusnet.

Suck my ass though anyway.

they're pretty much the best in terms of support, you get IPv6, static IP. Only problem is they're kind of pricey for the speeds and caps they offer relative to other home ISPs (£35/mo including line rental for ADSL2+, 100GB cap, fair bit more for VDSL a.k.a. faster FTTC) but on my own I wouldn't go over that

Versatel from Germany here.
Paying 35€ for 16.000 dsl, but this is what I mostly get. Also I have permanently 2-10% packetloss. Can't change because the contract just got extended.

How can you guys even use the internet with that connection?

Well my parents (I'm studying EE currently) don't wan't do change the isp because reasons I don't understand.
There are isp who offer 200.000 up/down with cable for 20€ or 50.000 dsl for 10€ but because of that contract we can't change

MFW I wish my whole line had 10 mbits

That sounds like pure shit. Unfortunately a lot of Germans pay for 16K and get 1K.
Pro-Tip: Switch to Vodafone. 19.95 for the 6K (Which you only get when you live in a shitspot) and 5 € extra for rural. Still less than any others fee.
>>53941719
I can't understand why eastern European shitholes get speeds like that. I saw people living in sheds with a Gigabit connection and here in Germany we get 50M when were lucky.
