There are ISPs in the United States that don't cap your data. Time Warner Cable doesn't.

I'm not saying they're a good company, but in this one regard they are better than say, AT&T or Comcast.

And I don't think there's really a way around it, beyond switching to a different ISP, or leaching internet from a place that won't have a cap (university, hospital, library, etc).

Well mobile plans a shit here. I have a stupid 300 MB plan.

True that most ISPs don't have caps (although some exist), but that's not necessary mostly anyway because Germany has shit internet overall.

Only universities have fiber and only some lucky fags or if you want to live in the inner city have cable.

Other than that I couldn't care less if my ISP introduced a 300GB data cap because It'd take me like 3 months to use it with my shitty 9 Mbit DSL line anyway

Yeah, but it's >the current year and data capping is like having a magnum dong under a chastity device. It's completely unfair, and yes capitalism is a bitch, but if enough people start making noises, they will bend.

Now that internet is starting to get better here in Brazil, there are talks of data cap, and people are already planning to burn telefonica/vivo, GVT, NET to the ground if they even try.

Now, from all the things that people give a shit in the internet, like feminism and virtual butts, data cap is kind of a real problem and a big deal, and people just accept it like it's okay. It's not.

The ISPs are, for the most part, secured in their monopolistic positions because of government intervention with the public utility system.

Neither candidates mentioned have a policy which would change this.
>>
>>53930026
Our regulatory agency says it's ok. It's fucked up, but honestly, having seen this shit in the US made me think that it was just a matter of time. Also, the higher is your hired connection speed, the higher will be the cap. The problem is that generally, the infrastructure here is really terrible, with the companies not being able to offer high speed for lots of people that have interest and money to pay for it. Thus, they will sell the speeds and for some, data packages, which is insanely ridiculous. It's almost every ISP is a Brazilian version of Comcast
>>
>>53931428
Thank the government for that.

Why even dude. 60$ for 25/10 unlimited FTTN. They just resell Bell, and are better than NCF.

300GiB a month? I've been almost hitting my 500GB cap the past 3 months. I need unlimited once I leave Bell.

We in the USA actually have someone at the FCC chipping away at the BS ISPs have in place.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/03/how-a-former-lobbyist-became-the-broadband-industrys-worst-nightmare/

I feel like we are still far behind Europe when it comes to our ISPs. But Wheeler has actually been an agent of change.

Unfortunately a lot of the stuff he has accomplished could easily be overturned in the next administration if they are influenced by the ISPs.

You're inverting cause and consequence.

The government intervention only happens due to strong corporate lobby.

This isn't the "evil" government's fault. It's businesses'.

I feel you man, but here its even worse (Uruguay), the infrastructure its so old that the maximum ADSL its 10Mbps, but only with 1km radius from a central station, otherwise you get half the speed.

Nevertheless I pay 20DOL for 2Mbps.

There is fibra, just not in my zone.

Also, 30Mb with fibra costs around 25DOL, its cheaper in comparisson, but still expensive. (60Mb 34DOL, 120Mb 50DOL).

There is a 300GB cap that reduces the speed to 1/10, but only if there is saturation, generally doesn't happen.
