What are the compile times like on an Intel is 5500u with 8 gigs of ram on Gentoo? I'm thinking about switching to gentoo but I don't want to get demolished by compile times

this can't be real

Seems like a nice fun project.

According to this thing, it would be extremely painful.

But it's a big CPU.

For you.

I just installed gentoo on an atom n270. It's just a question of dedication.

Install steps are basically same as arch, you just wait for compile time on packages. Most packages are small and will compile fast even with shit hardware.
Most of the time investment is just the initial setup - which is actually great for a fun project.
Gentoo is a damn nice distro, meme aside.
