Windows 7 won't update, it's taking FOREVER to install my shit.
>>
Download some SSDs in RAID 0 configuration.
>>
>>53919754
take it to /sqt/
>>
Is it even necessary to update your os?
I never do. Updates just make your machine slower so you need to "update your hardware"
>>
>>53919880
I wouldn't be too concerned, but I have an Xbox One controller, and I really want to play some Dark Souls 2.
The controller needs Windows to be updated to actually work.
>>
>>53919754
Just give it some time. Try like 4 hours. You won't see any progress on the bar during that time btw.

>>
>>53919754
just let it do its shit
eventually it'll be complete

alternatively find the Windows Update directory and clean it, and look for updates again
>>
>>53919971
Already did.
You fucking cuck.
>>
>>53919754
why are you leaving 7, 10 is undisableble spyware
>>
>>53919754
Their update client is a massive turd, I haven't used win 7 in a while but last time I did a clean install I got around this by installing the updates in 3-4 segments since I had problems in the past. From past experience, it chokes pretty often if you try to update everything at once. Starting from SP1 clean install will help, there should be less updates

So, just install them 4 at a time? Alright.

Thanks for all of the help guys, seriously.

Serious reply:

There are update packs out there which you can download and install manually.
Just google for that shit.
>>
Check Task Manager. I'd bet my next paycheck that svchost is taking up >=25% of your CPU.

I've had the same problem for the last few weeks. It's to the point where I either can't update or it takes several hours to do so.
>>
>>53920366
That actually was the problem until I rebooted.
Did you fix it? Or nah?
>>
Update the botnet.

Then, botnet the update

Then blow a random linux user

WINFAG LOSER
>>
>>53919754

You should try rebooting. Not even joking. Sometimes the updates won't continue because it needs a reboot .

If that fails, stop the windows update service, delete the update cache, and restart the update service.
>>
>>53919880
Yes anon, a font file displayed on a website can lead to REMOTE EXECUTION or a font file in a local program can lead to PRIVILEGE ESCALATION
>>
>>53920389
No. I just have to restart before I check for updates. That works about half of the time.
You can also kill svchost from task manager. It'll restart itself, and it should let you start downloading the updates.
>>
>>53920419
and?
>>
>>53919754
by now we're telling customers to plan for a day of installing windows, its drivers and all the updates. even if it has an SSD it still takes like 8 hours to finish everything it needs to do for win7
win8 is even worse with that. if there's an idiot stupid enough to ask for a win8 installation we tell him to plan for 2 days of wait time because it has to do all the updates, then upgrade to win8.1 and then do another ton of updates

>updating Windows 7
Why? There is no risk whatsoever of anyone haxx0r-ing you if video games or Steam are the only things connected to the Internet, while you sandbox everything else with COMODO or whatever.
That's the only shit you need Windows 7 for in regards to Internet access,
unless you are one of those cucks using Adobe Cloud shit instead of the non-cloud versions.

Other than that, just use any UNIX or LINUX distro for everything else like Internet browsing, music, videos, downloading.
>>
>>53920496
a vulnerability in the OS (like a weak font parser) can still be used through a patched program, like steam (a website through steam overlay)
>>
>>53920531
How exactly?
>>
>>53920547
because all programs use the os gdi and that gets patched a lot for vulnerabilities, if the gdi has security problems ya fucked

if you don't want to install all windows updates then review each security bulletin to see if you think its a worthwhile patch
>>
>>53920051
then you shouldve found your answer like i did months ago
>>
>>53920678
You didn't answer my question. How is someone going to haxx0r me over Steam or through a running gayme exactly? How will they reach, how will they send packets or trojans or whatever?
>>
>>53920737
buffer overflows anon, writing to memory they wouldnt normally have access to, from there they can execute any code remotely, download a trojan dropper etc

just google for ms security advisories for 'remote execution' 'gdi stack' etc
>>
Don't worry now that win 10 is a mandatory update you'll soon be using it after the updates install and you pc reboots. Join us on the botnet and all your dick pics belong to us now! It's a win-win if you don't think about it.

>>53920870

Or you could just hide those updates
>>
>>53920861
So let me get this straight:
In terms of buffer overflow, overwriting adjacent memory space over the allowed boundary,
we are talking RAM or GPU RAM (RAM used by Steam as caching, or GPU RAM used by the game for caching).

For a user to do that, they have to inject code to go along with the data the game or Steam are sending backwards and forwards during operation, right?
How will they make the game or Steam do that? How will they inject or get into a position of control to inject that code?

Following this, they can send a program, but how will it initiate?
Assuming it can initiate, won't COMODO or whatever recognize that a program is trying to make access and ask me whether to allow it or not? (I pretty much know what, when, and why to allow, and whether to question certain permissions popping up).

I'm trying to paint a picture in my head regarding this shit. My studies lie elsewhere from computers in stem.

Install GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.

If your doing a clean install of windows, 7 has a lot of updates backed up. Depending in your dl speeds, took me well over 4 hours on wifi to gather all the updates. Progress stays at 0% for a long time like the other anon said.
