What's the biggest /g/ meme you fell for?

I fell for the Java meme. C, and even Python, are more graceful than that restricted verbose mess
>>
>>53919218
Java isn't verbose, shitty frameworks like Spring and Java EE are.
Use something good like Undertow or vert.x.
>>
>I learned the most widely used programming language on the planet, WHAT A WASTE OF TIME
/g/, everyone

That's because there are a billion pajeets senpaitachi

Also, if usage is an indicator of low meme levels, then is facebook no longer a meme?

I installed Linux and spent 6 years using it, I sprouted my wizardry knowledge for years only to realise I wasted my time migrating

I feel for the C meme and discovered it's a shit language for making anything that does anything useful.

I fell for the SICP meme and discovered it was amazing and Lisp is the dirty secret of software development hipsters in Silicon Valley won't touch.

I fell for the Emacs/Vim meme and now I can't use any other editor than Spacemacs. It's that good.
>>
>>53919218
The JVM is excellent. Kotlin will replace Java anyway.
>>
java and c aren't meme

Java is a meme, but C isn't

Neither of them are meme

Are you implying python is verbose at all
>>
>>53920268
I'm saying that 2 languages considered not elegant in opposite ways, are still more graceful than Java.

Unix environment on Windows

Using OS X instead at work is somehow less hipster and more useful for devving than I thought. Even with bash, Windows seems like such a shitty environment for devving

just like scala?

Nah. Scala isn't a better Java but Kotlin is.

I got the 8350 and I gotta say that I feel the same way about mine. I haven't even spent time over clocking, for $170 a little over 3 years ago, I assume I'll have this CPU another couple years at least.

Java is alright, its just very dated now.

When I wrote a big program in C I've learned how much you can do with simple data structures and I also saw the issues that were inherent with C-type languages: Annoying memory management, undefined behavior, memory unsafety, string handling, annoying tools, bad module handling.

All of those things needed to be solved on a language level, Java did a good job at that. People are misusing Java by overengineering or expecting it to have the newest syntactic sugar (that will do nothing to actually improve your program), but the best way to write it is using it like C or C++ just with seatbelt and airbag.
>>
>>53919308
Each time someone tries to convince someone else that Java is a good language my brain dies a little. I'm so tired of having to deal with java babies, they fuck up my job so much.

No, garbage collecting is NOT a viable automatic memory management option, if you want automatic memory management use RAII for fucks sake.
>>
I fell for the thinkpad meme
oh and the linux mint one.
>>

>the newest syntactic sugar (that will do nothing to actually improve your program)

I swear to Christ this is why so many people on /g/ shill for Python and Haskell.

Syntactic sugar is one of the least important parts of a language only relevant on how big your fizz buzz tier programs will be, which explains why retards here love it so much.

You're on here every day shilling, we're on to you. I'd advise you to stop or it's going to backfire, and you'll be a blacklisted meme carrier we tell everyone to avoid.

>guys we hardcoded a bunch of patterns, aren't we cool?!
>also optional semicolons lol

Remember the furor when people started saying "lol isn't it cool to hardcode control structures and claim that everything else is cancer"? When will people learn that making a language increasingly specialist isn't good.
>>
>>53920863
Holy fuck that's awful.
>>
>>53932197
>When will people learn that making a language increasingly specialist isn't good.
Well, I agree with you, but since Go seems to doing quite well it's what people seem to like. Besides, what are the alternatives? Scala has warts upon warts and while you or I may use it I think it blew its chance to replace Java.

>You're on here every day shilling, we're on to you. I'd advise you to stop or it's going to backfire, and you'll be a blacklisted meme carrier we tell everyone to avoid.
But I'm not shilling anything, I'm just saying I have them. Everyone already thinks badly about boost (even I did before I switched) and I don't give a fuck if people like it or not. It's just I used to think it was a meme carrier until I took a chance and switched.
>>
>>53932194
>whats' the difference
i mean sublime has a command palette, it has an emacs plugin. the only difference is the subsystem is written in glorious lisp rather than python

Thinkpad T420.

I also use a Casio F91W but not thanks to /g/.
