Never seen this specific thread before probably because not a lot of people care. Only thing i pretty much see is thinkpad general or people specifically asking for notebooks and or ultrabooks that cost a specified number of euros or us-dollars so decided to make a general post.

My newest laptop: notebook
>Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 (2013)
>15.6 LCD
>Intel HD Graphics
>Intel Celeron
>4 ddr3 sdram
>500 Gb 5,400 traditional

There is no /ugt/ because once you got a job and left the /tpg/, Macbooks become the only viable choice.

Alright, here are my laptops, both are considered ultrabooks.

>500gb 7200rpm HDD
>6 h batterylife

Dell XPS 13
>13,3" QHD+ IPS Touchscreen (3200x1800p)
>i7-5600u /w HD5500 Graphics
>8gb ram, soldered
>256gb m.2 SSD, user changeable

Obviously the XPS is better, whether it's worth the premium for you is another question.
>>
>>53913686
For some reason i like x230t much more than XPS.

I thing that it has something to do with fargile premium vs hardcore work class feeling.
X230t feels like i dont need to worry about it at all while XPS needs to be taken care of so that it wont get scratches or dents.
>>
>>53913633
I just sat here and argued with my colleagues about the X230T. I personally love the look.
But... How does it work with other OS's like Ubuntu MATE or SuSe?
>>
>>53913773
I'm still a windows fag, so i haven't tried installing linux on this device.

Anyways there should not be any problems apart from drivers for these bit rarer features like wacom digilizer/pen and fingerprint reader.

Like name suggests this is just x230 with added touch features, so you can do pretty much all modification & run all OS's you could run with normal x230.

I do ask because I currently have a T430S and might go for a X230T when I have the opportunity.
Problem though, is that I also have a docking station for the t430s, but when I hook it up to a monitor, it doesn't run correctly. Can't take it out of the docking station and have it work properly either. Tried looking everywhere for proper drivers to fix this, but to no avail.

I don't even bother with ultrabooks anymore. They're still underpowered for stuff heavier than video watching and web browsing so I just sprung for the Asus E200HA, which has the new Z8300 Atom. Works decent for web browsing and video, handles 15-20 tabs in Firefox decently.

The screen is a substantial downgrade from my rMBP13, but I don't do any color sensitive work on it and Asus Splendid color makes it at least tolerable compared to other bluish garbage in this price range.

The battery life is stupid long on the E200HA, 16 hours web browsing, when playing games like WoW (30-40FPS on low) and TES Oblivion (30fps on max), it will still hold out for 8-9 hours.

The keyboard is better than 99% of ultrabooks out there, there's more key travel than the XPS13 and all Macbooks, with metal reinforcement stopping it from flexing while you type. Touchpad is a slight downgrade from the Macbook and other Windows Precision trackpads, but still very decent.

So the E200HA is a very decent "downgrade" from my rMBP13 and I got to pocket an extra $1200 from selling the Mac.

Need something small for general use, no gaming.

Should I get:

a) used ultrabook

b) new cheap Chinese tablet with keyboard like Chuwi Hibook

Definitely the most sexy machine out.
Aluminium + Black keys are way too dated. Macs have been using a very similar design since 2001.

Hahaha!

Please open your eyes mac fags... There are truckload of ultrabooks that are atleas pair with apple devices if not even better.

Those corners too round.
>>
>>53914859
>this nigga won't ever know the feel of using a decent trackpad
>>
>>53914891
Microsoft precision trackpads are identical to Macbook trackpads and a tiny bit better than the new force touch ones.
>>
>>53914859
I wasn't saying macbooks were better, I was saying they are the only viable choice for professional use (if you need a fairly high amount of power, that is).
I like ultrabooks, don't get me wrong and if I had a real choice, I would probably get something better.
But my 2011 mbp, which I got for 750€ on eBay about two years ago, still performs perfectly and there's honestly no reason for me to switch.
Also, keyboard and trackpad quality is sublime.
