The most chilling part of the article, for me personally, is:
[Feinstein and Burr are both working on a new bill to limit the use of encryption in consumer technology, expected to be made public in the weeks to come.]
equally chilling is:
Just days after the FBI broke into the terrorist's iPhone, the FBI told law enforcement agencies it would assist them with unlocking phones and other electronic devices
Im a programmer but i dont know shit about encryption. Are there any steps we can take now to make sure that we are still able to make use to the encryption technologies we have today even if they move forward with banning it?
(((Feinstein)))

>Every socialist or communist government in history has ended as totalitarian.
What the fuck is this shit.
Every Labour government in the UK until 1979 and French Socialist Party governments left democracy intact for starters.
In-fact the closest a Labour government got to totalitarian was the Labour government of 1997-2010, which abandoned any pretence at socialism (well, they claimed they had a "social-ism", or "cared about the poor", but they had no interest in nationalization etc.) and even that handed over power in 2010 when they lost the election (and for all the memes about "Brown trying to cling onto power" at the time, it was mathematically possible for him to do so and he did not.)
If the British experience demonstrates anything, it's that governments - red or blue - are trending towards a very nasty kind of totalitarianism which retains the illusion it is not present.
