Just about to finish this book and wanna get into C/C++ next. Any book recommendations/which language to learn first?

I prefer reading from print.

Learn something like Vala or Wren or some other weird language without books.
Time to transfer your general programming knowledge, a book shouldn't be necessary at this point.

Yeah but I seem to absorb information better from a hardcopy.

>Vala
It's dead.
>>53907003
What's the point of learning weird languages?
Sarting out with C++ Early Objects

That book is absolute shit. Since you have such low standards, you can read any of the poorly written programming books, trust me, there are shit loads.
>>53908572
Damn that thing is pricey.
>>53908672
I actually agree with you it's not the best but I got a free copy.
Any recommendations?

Looks interesting. Thanks anon!

Cheers
SICP is probably still the best introductory programming book if you have decent maths.

C in 21 days is not bad if you just want to learn the basics of C real quick.
i did Stephen Kochan's Programming in C and really enjoyed it
Learn GLSL. It's similar to C but you can do incredibly cool shit with it.

If you do find a textbook you want, and the price is absurdly high, look for an international version
They're a lot cheaper, although there are some caveats
>>53909230
This is a really terrible advice.
GLSL is way too confusing for a beginner.
>>53906961
You read 20-30% slower on a tablet
>>53908572
Don't get a C++ book that forces learning with objects. They're a conceptual crutch. Forced OO is for people who call java the "best" or their favourite language.

There's always the library. Hell, I live in rural Illinois and my library system still has a copy of SICP
>>53906932
Read SICP. Use Clojure. Never go near C/C++ again.
You'll be happier, I promise.
Don't read books, read code.
>>53906932
Do yourself a favor and pick up a modern and actually useful language.

>"shit I don't understand it"
>should've learnt Spanish first
Don't be silly, friend.

It's hard to tell, to be honest. Half of Gnome epps are developed in it and the last release was some days ago, but at the same time Gnome seems pretty dead.
>>53908548
So you don't find beginners books to cheat around transfering knowledge.
>there's people recommending shit on this thread that haven't even read SICP
>>53909664
we get it. youre edgy. calm down
if you think OO serves no purpose you've been using it wrong
