Arch is for people who don't have anything else to do, and want to make something for themselves to do. So they use an all-manual distro that they constantly have to tweak and repair and maintain

Arch is for people that like to fully customize their system based on what that system is meant to do, from the ground up ( imo ). Keeping it simple and only having what you need. Enjoy Canonical's tard-buntu

Is it really? You tried it? It seems like when you set it up only thing you have to do it is:
pacman -Syu

You can "rice" almost every OS and turn it into a timesink anon.

Welp back to Arch.

I can play this game too OP.

Nigger you don't do any of that shit with Arch. You install meta packages using wiki copy/paste commands. Leave the bragging to gentoo/LFS kids and go hang yourself over a flaming sandnigger.

You can rice anything. The huge perk of Linux is that you can run any wm de you want. That means your desktop should look very similar regardless of distribution run.

That also means once you have your config down you can copy a few files and have a riced environment nearly out of box on any fresh install.

Xubuntu in its nature is a minimal Ubuntu. Not bad for a rice base IMO. I usually start with xfce bases if I do a de at all.

I agree

Everyone always c-jerks about how great the Arch wiki is, but it's needlessly obtuse and skips over a lot of things that may be unfamiliar to users coming from an nonPacman based system.

But that's the Arch way! many of its supporters will cry. Yes, that may be the "Arch Way" but it's not a very good way

>>
I don't understand why so many people take time to do a manual step by step install but not do Gentoo. Arch install is basically same steps but using generic binaries. I get wanting to install the OS faster but it seems like if you cared about speed you wouldnt be installing arch in the first place.
>>
>>53905174
No, that's what people use Gentoo for.
Arch is just for ricer fags
>>
>>53908149
this
I got xubuntu, installed i3wm on it, riced the hell out of it, i was looking at my m8 set up with his newly installed arch. It's pretty much the same when it comes to efficiency, sure it would be nice to have control over every single thing that's installed in your system and it update with the latest releases before any other distro, and the package manager etc etc.
But honestly a lightweigt distro, with a lightweight wm can get the job done just as good
>>
>>53905118
have you ever personally used arch beyond booting an iso, or only seen it discussed?
personally, I set up my system in a night (basic arch install, slim->openbox with tint2, got aur working), spent a couple more days theming/getting things visually nice (font rendering, terminal emulator, etc.), and I've never significantly felt a need to modify it since. I'll occasionally find out about something interesting (e.g. tlp) and install it, set up a config for it, and leave it be
I'm not anal about updating my system (often leaving it for weeks without update/reboot), anything I've ever needed has been in the repos, it's light as hell, and it never breaks (and I've done loads of dumb shit, only had to boot off a usb and chroot once, after accidentally removing my display manager)
I really don't understand the vitriol, I've found it well designed and functional. I don't even think testing repos are as broken as laymen assume arch to be
>>53905301
this was my experience, except I don't think that's a bad thing
why return to ubuntu when it's non-rolling and doesn't have aur/updated packages?
>>
>>53909185

https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html
Do your own research faggot. Gentoo is free software as you can choose to how your system runs. However, since it have ebuilds for proprietary software on their server, they are not endorsed by the FSF. If you want a FSF distrobution you can use Utux XS

>Ututo XS, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Gentoo. It was the first fully free GNU/Linux system recognized by the GNU Project.

However, unless you can read bean runes, it may be difficult to read documentation.

I love using the arch wiki for everything except installing arch. The Arch wiki is a great source for learning how to configure or use Linux programs even in non-arch distros.

Example:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/mpv

Their mpv page is very helpful no matter what distro you use.

Do you actually think any of them are ever going to amount to shit? Like every other "sjw womyn's user group" it's just a bunch of fat, mentally-ill women playing pretend, not so different from the usual fat /g/ NEETs using a Linux system as a prop for their weird hacker roleplaying.

A bunch of fatties sitting around pretending to be "web devs" is about as far as any of them actually go. I wouldn't worry about a SJW takeover of Arch.
>>
Last time I installed Arch on my old X41, XServer came broken out of the box with a segfault error

I'm gonna guess this was XServers fault though, because that thing sucks ass, but even then I really don't want to hold my hand over my heart every upgrade hoping nothing will break

I think I will try some flavor of Ubuntu (or Debian) next time, but only when Wayland is the default
