For example by disabling search history, user location, etc. Does it even make a difference?

It does, but not as much as you would like it to, and of course, it depends on what kind of a device you use that account. On a Windows-based PC, barely any difference. On an Android device? Barely little difference. On a Linux-based PC, there might be some difference if you're careful and quasi-paranoid with your browser settings.
