Why do people recommend Linux mint?
It offers no advantage over Ubuntu and somehow manages to perform even worse than the distro it's based on.
>it just werks
So does Ubuntu.

No one here recommends mint, faggot.
Drop the autism
People recommend mint because Cinnamon is a comfortable de for people coming from Windows.
Although Fedora has a Cinnamon version too, so there really is no reason to use mint

But MATE is just as familiar.
If you set a single bar at the bottom instead of one top, one bottom, then you have a windows like DE that's much lighter and faster than Cinnamon without sacrificing any functionality.
Ubuntu mate only uses 300MB ram on boot and my tech illiterate dad loves it.

>Cinnamon is the only DE good for transitioning from Windows
Not true. My first Linux was Fedora, and since then I've tried a bunch of DEs before settling on enlightenment.

Did you even read the thread?

I'm sure.

You could say that for Xfce, LXDE, and many other desktops, but Cinnamon just werks™

All I read was, nope fuck you.
Take this advice.

Anything you would recommend or advise to someone looking to migrate from Mint Cinnamon to something like Fedora?
I've been thinking about making the jump over and don't have much experience with Fedora or Red Hat. I currently use mint as my daily driver for work and depend on shit like Sky linux for Skype Business and Remmina with RDP functionality.

Strictly as far as DEs go you can put the DE you want on whatever distro you want like running cinnamon with arch. For people transitioning from Windows cinnamon seems to be the easiest way and from osx the best I've found to recommend is deepin. It's basically a osx Linux skin. It's actually pretty functional too.
