Hey /g/
I've been thinking about trying out Linux for sometime, I'd like something that looks moden and sleek, any suggestions?
>>53895426
You can make any Linux distribution look like pretty much anything.
>>53895468
this
elementary os, korora, solus or antergos look "modern and sleek" out of the box.
but you can pretty much do that with any distro by just installing a theme and icon pack

>elementary os, korora, solus or antergos look "modern and sleek"
>antergos
>modern
Nice meme.
>>53895705
i'm fucking tired of numix but i guess it can still be considered to look "sleek" to people.

Ey luv, do me a favor and change the folder display to list with details -- I could never have it like this.
Apricity its arch for normal people.
Ubuntu looks pretty good
>>53895468
OP sounds kinda casual, I don't think he'll want to spend the time ricing openbox or something

which distro would make setting up a VM and or WINE the easiest/hardest to fuck up?
debian looks like the largest so that means it has the most bloat/possibly useful dependencies right?

Not gonna happen :^)
>>53896396
Don't be a šupak Ado. Why don't you create a blog, get people to glorify your ricing and stop shitposting the same god damn setup every day?
how's arch linux for a linux newb like me?
>>53896801
Arch is fantastic, but not for a linux newb.
I'd say use Linux on a more digestible distro before jumping into the jungle that is Arch.
>>53896857
how hard is it, really?
>>53896505
kek you are pretty darn retarded if you think it's riced
>>53896887
Not hard.
You'll just learn how to use text based partition tools and systemd
>>53896916
like you need to input the command manually rather than clicking and opening a program?
>>53896887
It's not really hard, it's just that new users won't really understand the benefits of using a distro like Arch, which leads to not understanding why the installation process has to be so manual, and then giving up on Linux in general.
>>53896943
Sort of. The entire installation process is like this, and when you're done installing the base system you still don't have a GUI.
>>53896801
When you want to see what Linux is, you install Mint or Ubuntu. They come with all the software and settings preinstalled so you don't have to learn how to get them before you can browse the web and watch videos.
After you start seeing some flaws in programs or desktop and want to change a lot of things to suit you better, it can be easier to just install something which makes you decide all the software yourself. You could just alter the existing one but that wouldn't be that much faster anyway.
Arch has this repository called AUR which contains practically every Arch software in one place, so you never need to look around to find them. It's so convenient. If you have a lot of things to install it's the best one. If you are happy with what Ubuntu gives you by default then there's no need to go through all that trouble, just keep using that.
>>53896943
haha no
It's the same as Mint or Ubuntu or Windows once you install a Desktop Environment.
Otherwise people like to use search+enter method to open their softwares
Since this thread has been created, I used to have Ubuntu 10.10 and it was all nice, but it got clogged and so on and on, so I dropped it, but it was great, and now I want the same interface, being Gnome 2.0, and also for it to act like windows even with the right click drag context menu. I just need a good system for efficient online browsing and file managing.
>>53897002
Gnome 2 is now called MATE. Also XFCE is pretty similar.
>>53897021
Sweet, good to know, is it entirely the same or has it been updated?
>>53897043
The updates in Gnome 2 created Gnome 3 which changed practically everything. People didn't like that so a fork of Gnome 2 was created called MATE just so people could keep using the old one.
You can install MATE in any distro I believe but Ubuntu should have a flavour that has it.
>>53897077
I found point linux, is the package system even worth the try or do I just stick to Shoobuntu
>>53897304
What theme/browser are you using?
>>53897304
Why not lo/g/OS it's arch plus ricedb for easy ricing
>>53898930
Firefox is in the title man
>>53897304
The AUR is the killer feature in Arch for me, I can't go back now.
>>53898984
can you actually use this shit? I thought it was dead
>>53899340
this
>>53899340
agreed
get an android lollipop wallpaper and numix circle icons and voila your OS look much progressive
>>53895426
Elementary OS.
Just works and looks good.
>>53895426
Use any distro with a GTK2/3 based DE like xfce, gnome, mate, cinnamon, etc and install numix theme or arc theme +numix circle icons.
They are pretty much the gold standard nowadays.

Manjaro or Antergos
Stay away from Linux Mint until they get their shit together
>>53895426
Get ChakraOS, because it's one of the few 'modern distros' that actually works.
