Did you watch this today?
/v/ was going crazy how most VR games appear to be really bad like VR Wii or VR app level games.
>>
Why is it that all the VR game developers insist that player movement isn't a thing?

Like seriously, I get that most people can't afford giant treadmill kinda thing, but just let us walk with a joystick or whatever on one of the controller things

Hell, even playstation 2 games were able to get this right, it's not that damn difficult
>>
Probably buy one when they drop the price after ripping off the early adopters like they said they are doing.
>>
>>53893465
are you implying it's not worth the price, or that it will be a defective product?
I'm pretty sure neither are the case, and the former is pretty subjective.
>>
>>53893783
I'm implying there will be better AND cheaper VR solutions in the future. Just wait like 3-4 years. Unless money is no issue to you, I wouldn't recommend buying it.
>>
>>53893725
if your eyes tell you you're moving but your inner ear tell you you're not moving, then you get motion sickness.
at least a large amount of people do.
playing VR FPS quake style is not going to happen
>>
>>53893796
$800 spread out over 3-4 years is nothing if you're not a poorfag, just buy both
>>
>>53893993
still no justification for that price today, especially with the lack of support. The vive will probably be cheaper in a year or two as well. No reason to get 1st gen right on release.
>>
>>53889235
No and thank god for that.
yesterday some guys had 11h stream testing this and there is no content for it.
The is not a single game worth the $800
>>
I've had a Vive Pre for like 2 months now. Good shit desu senpai

>>
>>53894087
Dude here is the rundown of all the games
>Job simulator = 4 job simulator each 1h long costs $40
>Shooting galleries = 15 games with the same concept ranging from $15-30
>pre alpha unplayable games around 5 games
>walking simulators
>teleportation simulators
>puzzle simmulators
>space shooting galleries there were 2 identical games one $30 one $20
No thanks, devs still haven't figured out what to do with the device and lack imagination.
>>
>>53893954
Not talking about quake type games, but normal walking and such shouldn't be an issue, right?
>>
>>53894141
Not him but you are right.
For some reason everyone is forcing this teleportation thing which beats all the purpose of a 1.5mx1.5m space for VR walking.
>>
>>53893465
>Thinks that if no one adopts technology other generations will follow at a decent rate, if at all.

I would rather jump in the game now for a polished 'dev' kit and get the devs supporting it. I was grateful for the ones that backed Rift to keep it moving forward, now to all of our benefit. If you jump in at 2nd or 3rd gen, if it makes it there, then you can thank us for keeping it alive poor fucktard.

Yet you are one of those fags that upgrades his phone with each release I bet huh?
>>
>>53894119
Only idiots are buying it this early strictly for the games, most people getting it atm will be at least hobbyist developers.

I saw the one game where you move by throwing balls around. The rest just seems to have the player glued in place, and either moving automatically or not at all.

Literally just let us walk with a single thumbstick/pad the way people are already used to doing it with normal console controllers. It'll feel unnatural af for like an hour, but you'll get used to it fine.
>>
>>53894119
>Add vorpX and enjoy a shit load of AAA titles using the VR headset, in 3d, immersed in the game worlds.

>completely ignored simulations existing already that work with them such as DCS,iRacing and others. Convenient for you.

Yeah, there is more you can play than just what you listed.
>>
>>53894232
linux is not technology, it is just code.
>>
>>53894265
I was listing games that are strictly intended for VR not regular games with VR support.
That being said driving simulator will be huge hit for this as long you have the money for the other stuff
>>
>>53894232
ir has other applicable uses, I had to write safety training software for companies using vr
>>
>>53894211
>poor fucktard
who said I was poor? I'm just not stupid enough to beta test overpriced, shitty hardware for people who get the next gen.

>you can thank us for keeping it alive
Thank you for being such a massive cuck lmao

>Yet you are one of those fags that upgrades his phone with each release I bet huh?
Lawl still rockin the HTC m7 mate. Only reason I have an iphone s6 plus is because its a work freebie.
>>
>>53894158
and where the fuck do you want to walk within 1.5m x 1.5m?
that's basically stationary
>>
>>53894311
Than why include it in the first place?
It just adds up to the price, remember you are paying $800 for a stationary VR.
I wonder which competitor does this for less money.
>>
>>53894141
yes, walking is an issue if you use a stick. specially rotations is where people start to vomit.

>>53894330

>>
>>53894352

You can fuck off now.
>>
>>53894336
He says only rotation is an issue tho

That's the right stick, I have only referred to the left
>>
>>53894284
Yeah, I can see that. Most of the shit on release are like kids titles, like somehow the devs thought these would be bought for children to play with. The buyers are adults, the content is for kids/families mainly it appears. Once the companies decide to accept the facts they ignored because they are fucking delusional better content will hopefully be out. It is now all up to the game/app devs.

I ordered min strictly for DCS, iRacing, ROF, War Thunder, basically cockpit sims. This is where VR is a perfect fit to me and what I have been waiting for. I got no interest in playing most of the shit I saw on streams over last week.

Just cleared as much of my room as I can and setup my light stands and extension cords in anticipation for this shit, all that is left is to await patiently until May.

I have plenty of space to pace around until then
>>
>>53894397
Then you might be better off with the oculus rift since you would be more likely to use Hotas than motion controllers so occlusion is not much of an issue.

DCS on steam has motion controllers tagged though, don't know how well motion controllers would work with a flight sim.

Sounds cool interacting with switches and levers using motion controls but it might not feel as immersive nor effective as using a flight stick and throttle.
>>
>>53889235
VR laser tag arcade WHEN?
>>
>>53889235
Why on earth would you buy it before you try it? Don't fall for the hype, there's a 100% chance that the first generation of VR headsets is going to be buggy shit, just like the first smart phones were buggy shit. I'm keen for VR but I'm not buying into it until the technology has had a few years to mature.
>>
>>53889235
no point until porn is perfected in vr
>>
Why does NO ONE talk about Star VR? It just seems like it's objectively the better hardware
>>
Got a rift since it was cheaper, but I do expect to switch to Vive next gen unless Rift does a turn around and is better than HTC next time.

I like to be cheap on gen 1 in general just in case things don't go well.

Are... are the displays positioned the way I think they are?

Jesus christ that will strain your eyes

Is that even possible for normal people?
>>
>>53895622
just to give you a hint. virtual reality hmd's are designed to counter eye strain.

your guess is not relatable to the experience

Too poor and it's way too fucking early to bother for me, I'll see in 6-12 months from now if it isn't a fucking fad or just plain suck.

It is truly a new frontier. Talked to some valve peeps who were working on software and games for vive. They said they don't have a fucking clue how to do it and most others don't either. Everyone is just trying to figure out how to do it and trying their best to make rules and guidelines, but it is truly like we just discovered space exists and these headsets are the rockets. It's not just head tracking display, it gives you for the first time accurate depth perception, you can see scale for the first time and your brain really does get tricked into believing you are there. You end up believing a virtual table is a real one, for example, so everyone with vives, take the headset off before you put anything down. Valve dev team has broken shitload of controllers this way, thinking a virtual table was real and trying to put them on there.
>>
>>53889235
Can I buy it with steam cash
>>
>>53895750
On the steam store it has a [visit the website] instead of the normal [add to cart] button

So, no
>>
>>53895696
You realize the natural fov of your eye os still greater than that, right?
>>
>>53895574
Well I don't think it will be much cheaper if you take into account motion controllers. Otherwise I would've bought a rift instead.

I was excited when I thought it was going to be around $400, They would have probably been more successful if they had targeted that price point from the beginning instead of going all out aiming for a higher price bracket.

If they had tried to cut down on the cost they could have yielded a similar result that is far more affordable.
Both HMDs aren't quite there yet, but dollar for dollar the Vive looks like the better option. I prefer their tracking system, motion controllers bundled, and having a front facing camera.

The biggest issue with the rift for me is that it was not designed with roomscale in mind, even for standing experiences with oculus touch controllers they are much easier to occlude if you turn facing the other way on a typical out of the box setup (both cameras on a desk). So most applications might be limited to content situated 180 degrees from the user's front facing position.

You'd need USB3.0 extension cables running to your PC which can be a massive hassle to setup as you have to route them around your play space so you don't trip on them. Meanwhile with the Vive you just need to position and provide power to the base stations.

Games for both systems at the moment aren't particularly great, but I have more options available to me with the Vive at the same price bracket.

If the rift were significantly cheaper I would've overlooked its glaring flaws and gotten it instead of the Vive.

Yeah I found that out the hard way. I took like 15 max bet skins off of lounge just to cash out on some easy sells on the market

Now I have to rebet them all on some dumpster matches so I can put my skins back on lounge

Any other csgo betters know this feel
>>
>>53895806

I'm not interested in motion controls though since I have an immobile shoulder.
