One has true black other has some sort of gray black - no scale for different blacks.

It affects the depth of image, + the colors look alike what you would see if you were watching outside your house trough your window during day time.

Sure you won't see a difference if you're basement dweller, you never seen the day - how could you tell the difference? It's all light for you.

Slightly better if your pocket is big and you watch movies all day where it does matter for that extra colors.

IPS is just good and MUUUUUUUUUUUUCH cheaper + superior to TN in color / black aspect.

I watch a movie once / month so I don't quite care m8.
>>
I just went from an old TN monitor to a new but relatively cheap IPS monitor. It's a huge difference, and I highly recommend it.

Have you ever used an IPS panel? Rather than crying when I stare at my TN monitors on my desktop all day, my jaw drops every time I open up my X220T and am reminded what an IPS panel really entails.

It's fine if you're okay with the worse panel, but don't you dare pretend you can't tell the difference you sick fuck.

I fell for this when I bought the Dell 27" gaming monitor that uses an 8 bit TN panel. Still not comparable to IPS, let alone VA.

Rocking a Z35 now and let me tell you, VA is simply the best. Anyone with an IPS panel should go use a good VA and see all the blacks you're missing. I'll never go back from VA, never go back from ultrawide, never go back from 144Hz. Gsync is nice, but I think I would be OK without it.
>>
>>53890409

VA is pretty good, though.
>>
>>53890478

/g/ hating on games is a meme that needs to die.

it wasn't funny then, it's not funny now.
>>
>>53890490
There is nothing wrong with games. There is something wrong with gamers. Many gamers know absolutely nothing about technology but think they're experts because they spent $3000 on hardware.

Ultrawide and 144Hz displays are both marketed to gamers, and they are both stupid.
>>
>>53890392
>>53889851
yes im sure you have people lining up all day at the side of your monitor to see whats on it
face it, you lost this argument
>>
>>53890548
Wouldn't 144Hz monitors eliminate 3:2 pulldown judder in 24 fps films and instead just just show each frames 6 times?
>>
>>53890556
TN is so bad that being off by <10 degrees makes colors distractingly inaccurate. As I said above, it's bad enough that there is distortion between the top and bottom of the screen!
>>
>>53889758
We're discussing modern technology here.
Luddites ho elsewhere.
>>
>>53890583
Yes. That doesn't matter in practice. With proper blending between frames you will not notice judder at 60Hz (or, hell, even 30Hz). Normal 3:2 pulldown already eliminates judder for the most part and modern digital techniques are even better.
>>
>>53890548
>144Hz displays are both marketed to gamers, and they are both stupid.

This is how I know you've never used a high refresh rate monitor. You could argue that ultrawide is stupid, but the immersion when gaming is pretty great. There is no way that anyone could say 144Hz isn't worth it, even for casual desktop use.
>>
>>53890718
You need an extremely powerful machine to drive a display at those refresh rates. Most 144Hz panels make large tradeoffs in image quality. 144Hz is almost certainly not worth it. There are other vastly more cost-effective upgrades.

>casual desktop use
Now I know that this is bait.

This.

I just can't even comprehend how people aren't bothered by this, or don't even notice it.

TNs look awful compared to IPS when you put them right next to each other.

Get a high resolution image with lots of detail and compare the colors and details.

Then move your head around and look at the angles and how the image completely distorts on a TN.
>>
>>53888939
I had no idea how bad TN was until I got an IPS and was able to see them side by side. It's like a whole other world.

Image quality isn't the purpose of a 144Hz panel.
It does two things: it makes screen tearing less annoying without vsync since you don't want input lag in games which require fast reaction times, and it updates your screen as frequently (or more frequently) as the server's tickrate, so you get all the information.
When I play a game like Counter-Strike, I give fuck all about color quality and I'm willing to have all the color washed out if it means I can see my enemies better.
Obviously, you wouldn't use a 144Hz TN panel for doing color work as it is not intended for that.

You've been drinking some cool aid there.

TN is definately shit, but it's shit for 2 very important reasons:
- shit viewing angles
- only 6bit color representation (can be 8 or even 10bit with FRC though)

IPS is SHIT for blacks and SHIT for contrast.

Notice how LG TVs always look washed out compared to everything else at the store - that's because they're the only people stupid enough to use IPS on a TV.

VA will always be the best for monitors and TVs.
IPS is shit contrast but due to the great viewing angles it's best for phones/tablets that aren't already OLED.

FW900 is a meme
It's not the best CRT Monitor

Nokia 445Pro is better and can do 344hz refresh rate

Some CRT projectors have 180khz scanrate and could easily do 4K at 100hz or more(most likely at an interlaced resolution) but not monitors
