>1080 is the new poorfag resolution
>all my monitors are 1080 or 1200
>would cost $2,000 or more to replace them all with 1440, which isn't even much better

Not sure how to feel about this quite yet.

So what's it like having your life dictated by memes? Just kidding I don't care.
>>
>>53887894
>>1080 is the new poorfag resolution
Who cares why do you care what memes thinks?
>>
>>53887894
A IPS 1440p monitor costs $200. Are you a poorfag?
>>
>>53888282
Worse, a Canadian.
>>
>>53887894
>1080 is the new poorfag resolution
1080 was never a good resolution for computing.

>1440, which isn't even much better
You're an idiot. Hurr durr 3.7 megapixels isn't much better than 1.92 megapixels.
>>
>want to upgrade to 1440p
>no 22"-24" 1440p screens over here
okay
>>
>>53888360
Only a ~31 DPI increase assuming you're sticking to 24 inches. Any larger and the DPI goes down even further.
>>
>>53888442
As if a 30 DPI increase over a 90 DPI base were insignificant. 90 DPI is shit. Even 100 DPI is pretty terrible in 2016.
>>
>>53887894
>he's falling for the >1080 meme
>>
>>53887894
I'm 1600 by 900. Should I care? I use my computer for gaming and programming.
>>
>>53887894
1440p @144hz is glorious. Frame rate is life. Will ditch desktop monitor as soon as my rift arrives though.
>>
>>53888282
No it fucking doesn't. Unless you're buying cheap Chinese shit. A quality decent 1440p IPS panel is upwards of 400$ you shitlord.
>>
>doing something because some internet forum likes to be elitist about their purchases
Are you twelve?
>>
dont listen to these spergs 1080p is just fine
>>
Meh, I just got p2415q. Quite like it. ~185 ppi.

Pro-tip: there will always be better tech coming out months, weeks or even days after you buy equipment. You need to be happy with what you've got because if not, its a never ending chase...
>>
>>53890798
No, but a second monitor might be useful for programming.
>>
>>53891099
Not really.

CPU's are plateauing
Laptops are still mostly 1366x768 and have been stuck in a regression from the 1440x900 standard of 2008
1080x1920 has been desktop standard for years

The upgrades on newly released tech is not as large any more.
>>
>>53887894
>1080 is the new poorfag resolution

Maybe on /g/. You go out of this bubble a ton of people are still using laptops with 1280x800 screens.
>>
>>53891009
Bullshit.
I have a 27" HP that I bought for 290 including shipping 2 years. Sure it's one of the first-generation 27" 1440p monitors but it's still a top binned panel with zero defects and a good VESA stand. Even if you don't get lucky with sales or hunt for deals it only takes a cursory glance at amazon to get a top tier 27" for under $350.
>>
>>53891068
man, monitor shopping is so hard nowadays. I feel like nothing really meets my standards
>4k (needs to have perfect 1080p scaling for muh games and muh blu ray)
>IPS/VA
>over 60hz
>freesync

it doesn't exist.
I either have to get a 1440p monitor with those features or a 4k 60hz one. Feels bad man.
>>
>>53891366
200$ and "under 350" are huge fucking differences for a monitor dude.
>>
Hey yo since this is the only monitor thread up, could anyone mind talking about gsync vs freesync? Near as I can tell gsync is technically better but that $200 chip premium (and proprietary tech) seems like a big pain in the ass. Are either really necessary or is running at maximum refresh rate at all times fine regardless?

Haven't bought a monitor that runs above 60hz before so thanks for any advice.
>>
>>53891366
I only run triple monitor setups, 24" is the biggest I'll go
>>
>>53892001
You'll be fine just running it at the max. Fuck gsync.
>>
>>53892001
>Near as I can tell gsync is technically better
just fucking google/youtube it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzHxhjcE0eQ
they trade blows which is embarrassing considering gsync has a $200 price premium. what this video doesn't convey is how worth freesync/gsync is, it's a must for any new monitor you buy..
t. someone who has tried gsync
>>
>>53891009
Just get one of them Korean ones that have Samsung panels. Only 250ish most places. They are also overclockable. I got mine to 110hz
