How reliable are sd cards /g/? Is it the same as a flashdrive? Are they secure in terms of data usage? Or will it lose data permanently more easily?

well SD stands for SECURE Disk

SD CARDS BREAK EVERY NOW AND THEN

The problem is that I never recall /g/ talking about them, since all they promote is HDD drives, I want to know what's the consensus on this matter, do you deprecate them because of the price? please let me understand

What If you keep them within an SD slot which is also within a flashdrive slot? Would it be secured then?

i have a 64 gb sd card for pictures of my dog that i had to put down last week, but i also uploaded them to mega.

hopefully they both dont fuck up on the same weekend.

not too reliable in my experience. Big file collections will usually have an error in there.

So, is not a really good idea, is it? I should just stick to HDD's, right? I just wanted to store some books, since they occupy so little space in comparison to other files.

If you got two and mirror them who cares if one breaks? Oldest SD card im still using is from my old blackberry, an 8gb that still works fine, its about 10 years old now, used in all my phones

what if I have one plus a hard drive for backup?

microsd cards are on the "cheap" side of MLC NAND. Meaning they can sustain around 1,000 write cycles before failing. Also chink brands tend to have shitty nand controllers which can spontaneously fail or have bad wear leveling control.

So as long as you get name brand microsd cards (ie samsung/sandisk), you should be able to safwly get ~1,000 write cycles out of them before something bad happens. For example ~64,000GB out of a 64GB microsd or ~128,000GB out of a 128GB microsd.

So at least for modern name brand 64/128GB microsd cards should in theory outlive you

So, what about hard drives? Are they the ultimate choice after all?
>>
>>53887989
They're worse because they can fail unpredictably and are more prone to permanent damage from falls. There is no rough estimate as to how long they will last as where an SSD/microsd card can be given a rough lifespan estimate based on how much data they write. Again assuming they are non-chink brand (ie good controller).

OK. That convinced me. Thanks.
