I'd like someone to redo benchmarks with older cards on newer drivers. Tried to use a 6800 GTO (downclocked OEM version of a 6800 GT) a few years ago, and it just performed terribly, even on older games.

Nope. Only seen improvements in performance for my 960 since I bought it.
I even had increases in performance for my Quadro 4000 last year before I sold it. Driver updates reduced temperatures while improving performance.
