C is a very good language compared to the mess that is C++ but it could just be them favoring something they learned first and are comfortable working with.

Its actually better if you have ever used it.
C++ gives you the ability to compile some dependency without recompiling everything because all the shit is in the header. It basically broke the best shit about c for something we really cant do without. And most of the fucked up shit in c++ are hacks trying to get it back.
