I too, need cooling on my gaming router for maximum performance. It is better to invest in ram cooling though first.

how to hide your router:
move the cables and power supply you dicksucking retard, why are they bundle up like a messy pile a shit? Did you model it after your life?
>>
>>53878855
I've actually burned through several routers over the past few years, I'm sure a lot of it is due to degradation of the hardware from heat. They usually only last about a year but they're so cheap that the math still works out in favor of this method vs. buying an expensive gayming/high end router. The truth is those expensive routers probably do have slightly higher quality components.
>>
>>53878912
What the fuck are you doing to burn trough routers? I've never seen a dead router in my life. They aren't exactly under stress even the most basic components should hold up for years.
>>
>>53878943
This.
I pulled out a 10Mbit switch which was sitting on top of a fridge (and thus hot as fuck nearly 24/7). The only problem it had was the plastic was going, and it was getting a bit old (the bandwidth was choking users connected to it).

it's like seeing technology actively scares some people or offends their aesthetic sense.
>>
>>53878679
It would overheat. Routers have fans for a reason, fuckwits.
>>
Don't routers usually have antennas? Where do the antennas go?

>>53878855
Routers have no cooling and they do run quite hot (atleast mine does). It doesn't affect the performance, but covering up your router in flammable fabric like that is a fire hazard (or it will atleast cook your router).

I've seen some cheaper routers idle at 60C.

If you cover the vent holes, like on the OP pic, the hot air won't have any way to escape from the case; it'll stay inside the thing and heat it up much further to 70-80C.

Which is a really bad idea.

if you're the average retard technophobe that thinks that having anything technical showing means you're a loser. Same assholes who drive a car til it dies and it's over something like not changing oil, literally scared to death to open the hood, or as I've recently taken to calling it, bonnet.

>>53878912
>>53878943
I've seen dead routers with a lot of businesses and it is always for one of two reasons.
-It's the most entry level home class router that was only built to handle 4PCs and they have it hooked up to a switch trying to handle 30.
-It's in a very hot room for example they were smart enough to have a "server room" but it isn't ventilated in any way

Get a business class router, hopefully try to install a firmware on it, and keep it stored properly. Had an asus RT16 running dd-wrt mega for almost 5 years now, cost $70 in 2011.

changing the orientation though
if it was designed to work best flat, it wouldn't be affected if the antenna was pointing to one side?
>>
>>53886096
You can turn a router on its side and still properly orient the antenna.

zzz, you're at /g/, you should atleast have an idea how this shit works

a combination of radios for wireless nics, weak/powerful processors, good/bad space around the cpu for air flow, .. all dictate the temperatures of a normal household router

>>53886369
Yeah, but I just said my router stays at a balmy temperature, not that I'm a tech illiterate.

I also browse /lit/, so I actually look at books rather than just using them as decoration.

A big shitilly bound book with no title would be so much more annoying to have in a room than a router.
