well I'm a fucking retard
>has 4gb of memory for almost a decade
>finds that I am starting to multi task a lot more these days, thinks it is about time to upgrade
>so buys a "single" stick of 4gb of RAM while I currently have a dual channel of 4GB (2 x 2GB)
>thinks everything is okay cause I am a fucking dipshit
>gets it in mail
>happy as fuck
>spends hours on trying to figure out why after inserting the 4gb stick into a single channel and starting my computer up, why it was subtracting my ram to 2048mb
>I am now sitting on 6gb's of ram currently since I switched out 1 of the 2gb sticks and had to leave one out
can anyone help a autistic fag like me?, or am I simply fucked?
buy another 4gb stick
Research before purchasing anything next time.
I don't see why you don't just buy another 4 gb stick, they're cheap as Fuck nowadays.
Just sell your old ram afterwards
>>53870571
Yeah you're right I will just buy another one, I did research though I just didn't research enough.. bad on my part
>>53870683
Nigga, ill buy it FOR you just for being retarded. Gimme email address
>>53870708
are you serious?, [email protected], thank you so much man I appreciate it
>>53870708
H-hi I bought the wrong 1TB SSD, I was supposed to buy a SATA III but bought an mSATA one instead. Could you help me out too?
>>53870708
I need a galaxy s7 senpai
so these dual channel things need to have the same exact kind of ram on both slots?
>>53870390
break the stick in half
>>53870390
Shouldn't this work by just disabling the dual channel? What motherboard you have?
Anyways, with RAM so cheap this days just buying the other stick is a better idea
>>53870753
There's mSATA to SATA adapters out there senpai
>>53870795
Some older motherboards do
>>53870708
can you sponsor visas to third world scum?
>>53870817
I have an ancient, 870A-G54 I tried looking for something like that but I can't find anything
>>53870817
I'm on a motherboard that originally had 256mb and I added a 1gb stick in the other slot so now I have 1.256gb
OP here, I forgot to add a speculation I have.. that may be the reason, could it be the memory voltage is too low, and it's reading only 1 because of that?
>>53870742
>>53870753
>>53870780
>>53870820
None of these are OP. If he actually sends me his email ill buy the ram
It is me
>>53870390
What OS are you using? If it's Windows 7 32 bit then it won't recognize anything above 4GB.
>>53871315
I am using Windows 7 64bit, but I use my bios for looking at my RAM
>>53870390
Anon, is that an EVGA 680i SLI board? I have a client right now in my geek squad clone-shop with a board that looks identical to that. It's beginning to shit the bed. Good luck.
HELLO I AM HERE FOR THE FREE RAM
>>53871105
I hope this is enough
>>53871437
op you're acting adorable
beg harder
Put the 4GB stick in one of the channel 2 slots, and the 2GB sticks in the channel 1 slots.
>>53871648
I tried that first but it subtracts my memory to 2048mb's for some reason
>>53871437
Thanks.
I'm guessing that the motherboard just isn't compatible with those memory modules in dual channel mode, so It's just using one channel and ignoring the 2GB stick in the other channel.
>>53871799
Yeah that seems like what it is
>>53870390
You probably have the kits inserted wrong. The 2x2 GB should be in the same color, and the 1x4GB should be in the other color, with the vacant slot having the same color as the 1x4GB stick.
>>53870708
i need a soldering iron.....
no gaming pc thingies i actually need to work
>He doesn't have DDR4 RAM
Do you even like to smell pussy in the morning?
>>53870390
>these people regularly come to and post on /g/
I'm thinking of buying another stick right now, what should I know as to not fuck up? Mother is Z97X-Gaming 3 and I got an old kingston stick of 8gb that's been with me for a couple of builds.
>>53870390
You shouldn't have any issues running all those sticks in a single board, just put them all into the right slots.
Also are you on DDR2 memory or some shit? why didn't you just buy a single 8gb stick?
