/g/ halp

My USB, which I had a functioning iso of Kali Linux on, got corrupted after removing the USB out before ejecting.

I'm not able to access anything on the USB nor reformat it. The USB is being recognized as existing on Windows, Mac, and Linux but I can't figure out how to reformat it. I tried all I can so far.

It's showing up as XXXXXXXXXX U181CONTROLLER USB Device and that Russian looking symbol.

Any ideas to help me with this? I'm not concerned about keeping the data on it, I want to be able to reformat the USB so I can use the USB. If you can help me solve this problem I will post something invaluable that most people don't know about, it's related to the open source movement.
>>
OP here. The USB doesn't mount. But..
>The USB is being recognized as existing on Windows, Mac, and Linux but I can't figure out how to reformat it. I tried all I can so far.

And the USB blinks and that's all it deos.

Try MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional 9.1.

this

Ok, trying it now.
>>

>>53866342
Tried it, can't find the disk for the USB.
>>
>>53866316
>>53866342
When I take the USB out while the application is open, it recognizes that a disk change was made, but it doesn't even show the USB drive.
>>
>>53866316
Use Diskpart on windows you fag
>>
>>53866514
I tried gparted, gpart in Linux, diskpart didn't work either. On diskpart, it says the no media error. And when I tried chkdsk it says can't open volume for direct access.

1. insert usb into windows
2. wait for it to be recognized
3. Choose safe removal of usb storage
4. remove usb
problem solved
>>
>>53866610
>Stream it to me
I can't.

When I take remove the USB it recognizes it as existing in the application.
>>
>>53866629
Did that. The data on the USB is corrupted already though. I need to be able to reformat the USB. The hardware is definitely fine though, it's brand new.
>>
>>53866637
Wtf. Be clear. Can you see the USB on the app, yes or no ?
>>
>>53866684
The USB doesn't show up as a partition. It simply acknowledges when the USB is removed because it says it's updating the list of partitions, but it doesn't show the USB.

I don't know which /dev/sdb is my USB device. Plus, lsblk isn't telling me which is the USB.

Tried dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=512 count=1 with adding sudo, go the result of:

1+0 records in
1+0 records out
512 bytes (512 B) copied, 0.000618578 s, 828 kB/s
>>
>>53867020
they will go with a sequence order.
your first hdd will be sda
second sdb
so if there is no other device your usb will be sdc
>>
>>53867107
also fdisk -l will give you the list and by the sizes you can tell which ones are your normal hdd devices.
>>
>>53867020
Sorry anon ,it's getting late and you seem to be too lazy to google the simplest things that are well documented on Kali website. Good luck cracking your neighbors Wi-Fi

If that's what was the purpose for me having Kali Linux I'd just use the DVDs I burned with Kali Linux on it rather than this USB I'm trying to reformat.
>>
>>53866905
After I use the clean command it says there's no media. So it doesn't work.
>>
>>53866809
I just deleted the Linux distro I had with the dd command. lel. Good thing I had nothing on it. So not a problem. The dd command should be able to work once I figure out the specific drive for my USB. I've reinstalled the Linux on this computer again.
>>
How have you not come to the conclusion that the drive is just dead?
>>
>>53867429
It's not though.
>>
>>53867434
It doesn't show up under anything. The storage on it is not recognized. Its dead, family.

I did just delete my entire hard drive with the dd command. I dd'd the /dev/sda by accident. I'm using multiple computers. I'm replying to the b8.

The USB has been marked with a Dirty Bit.
chkds/fsck that shit..

OP here. Anyone have any other ideas for a solution through Windows, Mac, or Linux?

There has to be a solution, it's a software problem, not a hardware problem.
>>
use dd
>>
>>53867951
It's a hardware problem, family. You have to buy a new flash drive. Denying it won't make it come back

You can run dd and get an image of the disc, then use recovery tools on that image. But if I'm following this thread correctly, you already Zero'd the drive, so there's not much to do in the way of the data. Drive itself is prolly fucked.

all this for a cheap $2 chinese thumb drive with a kali linux iso...

>>

gparted, system msdos, formwat as fat
>>
>>53866224
Load up a gparted standalone ISO or Ubuntu live or something and then redo the USB's partition table as gpt.

If there was classified, top secret information on this USB drive, are you saying it's safe to let this USB be the way it is now? For example, if the USB got into the wrong hands. If so, then it seems like a good way to make a USB drive that can self-destruct, by writing a program into it to destruct this way by making the drive mimic being ejected or something and then allowing the person to pull it out and corrupt the USB drive this way.

OP here. Still not able to solve this problem with the USB. I wonder if the NSA could. I will continue working on it as a pet project. A few don't deserve what I'm about to post, for example, this cocksucker >>53866588

But I'm going to post it anyway for those who gave any positive input.

On Windows try DiskPart

Gparted on Linux should do, this is a common issue with windows, it doesn't want the user to fuck up so it refuses to modify bootable media.

This USB problem requires computer forensic skills, it's not a matter using some popular disk partitioning application or terminal command.

what gives fdisk as output?
Try to reformat it "sudo mkfs.vfat -F 32 -I /dev/sdX" where X is the right character of your device
>>
>>53877881
"No medium found"
>>
OP if you did dd if=/dev/null of=$(thumbdrive) your thumb drive is now all zeroes (if you didn' want this you shouldn't have run it without sudo without checking what it was you moron, had it been your hard drive you wouldn't have a working computer now).
What you have to do now is create a partition table and a filesystem on it. (Partition table with fdisk and filesystem with mkfs).
Also you could google all this. Yor drive stopped working beacuse the FS wasn't closed properly.
>>
>>53877881
Try gparted as last solution, it is probably bricked tho
