If you buy Swatch mid tier brands you are a cuck of the highest order.

What is with Seirko's hardon for these stupid pins and collars? This is way fucking worse than regular friction pins.
>>
>>53866527
There's too many variations, depends on the movement, on the dial, on the crystal shape, material.

The hands are friction fit on the movement.

The dial usually has two rods called the feet resistance welded on, these rods go into holes on the movement and can be friction fit, or clamped in place by screws or have tiny cotter pins going through them or have slots cut into them that fit D shaped cams built into the movement.

As best as I can figure out the movement is held by a movement ring which can be friction fit plastic for chink made watches and seiko's or be made of metal for any respectable brand. The metal movement ring presses against a tiny lip on the outside edge of the movement which stops it from falling out the back of the watch, and to stop it from falling forwards and hitting the crystal two metal tabs screwed to the movement fit into a groove cut in the movement ring.

The movement ring itself uses similar tabs that fit into a groove in the watch case. Some watches which use large movements don't need a movement ring and the movement tabs slot into the groove in the watch case.

Crystals can be glued to the case, usually they are press fit using a tiny nylon gasket that fits around the crystal. Acrylic crystals sometimes are made to slip over the watch case and a bezel is then squeezed over the acrylic crystal, kind of like how a rubber band holds plastic wrap over the end of a tin can.

Just watch repair videos and it should be pretty obvious the various systems in use.

>A replica is an exact reproduction, such as of a painting, as it was executed by the original artist or a copy or reproduction

Only caveat imo is the word EXACT, but honestly some are fakes, some are replicas. Some literally cant be told apart since the execution is the same, result is not 100% but within variance, but so is for example Rolexes stamp on the dial. Tricky.

Wearing mine only at home since it is not a watch, but a replica. Still wear my Omega out and about. Didnt really want to fork out 22k for a certain style and just because I appreciate the form. Maybe I'll get a Datejust, but my Autism is triggered from the no Day dial.

If I had a significantly bigger wrist I'd consider a tourby.
I personally consider it less retarded to buy a richemont Panerai / IWC rep (specially with neat case materials or functional movement enhancements like long power reserve or quick set hour) than a genuine one since the genuine are truly hilariously overpriced - specially seeing as the reps are close to functionally identical. But their designs are still generally oversized and retarded.

Higher end than that makes less sense though - if you buy a Patek, VC, Lange, etc you hopefully do so for the craftsmanship and finishing - which simply can't be compared.
If it's purely for shallow aesthetics that does exist. Movement plates are a thing and they'd probably even fool the common WIS in person without a loupe / camera, but that's not something I'm interested in.
>>
>>53869551
Sorry I dont stalk /wt/ very often anymore.

>However, replicas have often been used illegally for forgery and counterfeits, especially of money and coins, but also commercial merchandise such as designer label clothing, luxury bags and accessories, and luxury watches.

I think you have some definition mixed up, fakes and replicas are not the same, since one is easily distinguished and the replica takes some knowledge to tell the real from the copy. But who am I to argue about the english language, and I certainly don't defend replicas or fakes, since there are mostly legit homages of a watch that you should buy. No this is just a part of the addiction for watches I had.
>>
>>53869913
Replica is just a term people who pay a lot for fake watches use to rationalise. I call my fake watches fake watches because I could go into a store and spend thousands and walk out with a real one. If it was something historical and you recreated it for historical purposes (like a museum exhibit) it would be a replica.

Quality isn't really the issue. Replica guns usually don't even fire.
>>
>>53866548
I dont think I would ever be able to read those yellow and orange hands at a glance. I love the hand style, but Jesus dick sucking Christ that dial kills it.
>>
>>53869913
>I think you have some definition mixed up, fakes and replicas are not the same
I have my definitions straight, you're the one using the makers of fakes as an example of a replica watchmaker.

>since one is easily distinguished and the replica takes some knowledge to tell the real from the copy
Read what you just said. The definition of a replica is not
>It's a really good fake that's hard to tell from real thing!

For an understanding of what makes a replica a replica, lets take a look an episode of Jay Leno's garage where he shows off his Bugatti Type 35 replica.

The important bit starts at 2:15, but it's a good episodes, so just watch the entire thing. The main lesson here is: A replica is not where you attempt to mimic the most shallow outward appearance of something. A replica is not where you try and pass off something as the original trying your best to mimic a specific logo or signature. A replica is where you actually, truly, try to replicate something. That means you ultimately need to recreate the manufacturing methods and materials used to make the original the best you can.

This is why I said, which you ignored,
>Keep in mind there is no reason to replicate a watch currently in production, those are all fakes.
Take a look at something like a Rolex Sub. The amount of money it would take to get the tooling required for their 904L steel, get the equipment to make the parachrom hairsprings and to train new staff on all of it, your projection costs for a replica of a modern Rolex would be significantly higher than what it would cost for Rolex to make them, probably even quite a bit higher than simply buying them until you've produced a pretty significant number of units. There are no replica watches of any watch currently in production, there are no replica cars of any car currently in production.

Real replicas that people are putting time and effort into are only of things that have been out of production for a while, and often the original examples are so scare not everyone who wants one can get one, so one or more is used as an example for reverse engineering and then replicas are made from the reverse engineered plan. Some of the completed replicas hit the market, others go straight to museums. Now, if you attempted to make a replica, and you did a shitty job of it, it would be a shitty attempt at a replica, it wouldn't become a 'fake' because a fake does not mean a poorly done replica, and a replica is not a well done fake. You see now?

Is there a reason a manufacturer that makes cars that size like Mazda can't make something that actually looks like this body-wise (but just cosmetically) for cheap? I think people would still buy this aesthetic over e.g. the newest MX-5. Not dated at all.
>>
>>53870387
I don't know that modern safety standards would allow a body in that shape/size anymore. Maybe if it was labelled as a 'kit car'?

But yes, I do like a lot of the sleek 60s style bodies over modern cars.
>>
>>53870425

>>

Autism is making the poor choice of choosing a fake watch over a perfectly good ordinary watch from a reputable manufacturer and then convincing yourself that your fake watch somehow isn't shit because you come up with doublespeak names for it and viciously defend yourself against people who try to call things what they are.

I can guarantee you that a $300 fake Black Bay is not as good as a real one. I can guarantee you that it isn't even as good as a $300 SARB.

kek that's actually considered good for shitty seiko and orient divers. I had a hell of a time fixing the one on the orient ray which was almost half a minute off kilter (60 click). Needed to evenly file down the 4 springs on the bezel ring until it lined up.
>>
>>53872778
For those with small wrists skx013 is still available and should be looked at. Otherwise while it is pretty big it doesn't seam to wear as poorly as you might think for a watch of its large diameter.
>>
>>53873023
I will never understand why people buy cheap mechanical watches.
If you're poor, get a quartz. At least the finish will be nicer than your average shitty non hacking, non handwinding meme diver.
>>
>>53873065
Even considering the orient is priced in the fossil tier and is waay better. Mechanical or quartz the movements aren't worth much either way.
>>
>>53873065
People are interested in mechanical watchmaking. It's natural to buy a mechanical watch in budget.
>>
>>53872983
sarb033
>>
>>53873195
With the exception of maybe the SARB line, it's simply stupid to buy a sub $2k mechanical watch.
It won't even be worth the service cost, and thats if you can find someone willing to service your piece of shit.
>>
>>53873225

>>
>>53872260

Whichever size feels best.
>>
>>53873325
You could also look at sdgm003, it's a little more expensive but it has nicer finishing.
>>
Why do you autists rage over a replica where you yourself proudly wear "homage" watches? Literally the same thing to me.
>>
>>53873325
You can either get one of the vintage King Seiko's or get the SDGM003.
>>
Sorry for the stupid question but how do you call the material with this kind of texture? Is it plastic? How is that texture achieved?
>>
>>53873531
>>53873537
That one is not quite right too. I forgot to say it but vintage and quartz are okay.
>>
>>53873544
knurling i think
>>
>>53873278
You can buy watches for less than the cost of a service and simply wear them until they don't work, which could be 20+ years. That's no different than your quartz which you claim people should buy, but that will absolutely require battery changes.

And while Sarbs are nice, I don't think they hold that special of a place where they're worth servicing. You wouldn't service a sarb either unless you want to keep it for sentimental reasons, you buy a new one.
>>
>>53873571
So Vintage King Seiko's and vintage Grand Seiko's are a proper fit.

Though i've seen quite a few Actus and LM special models that looks similar to it.

Not to mention that the concept of dive watches is very stupid nowadays, since people wear actual dive computers.
Maybe that explains why so many retards in these threads put leather on their meme divers.

Just swap batteries with the correct model of each type of watch, but buy decent branded batteries (Renata,Energizer and etc) since the chinkshit tends to die and leak rather quickly.

Well it really shouldn't be that bad, but then again don't expect much from an old watch with a snap-on caseback. I was wearing it when it was at least 100 F outside and close to 100% humidity and as you can imagine I was soaking it in sweat as a result, normally I would wear a diver for situations like that.

It's not hard though because as I said it's a snap-on caseback so you just pop it off and let it air out a bit. The watch never stopped or anything and so far it hasn't seemed to mind at all but I imagine it wasn't good at all for the movement or for the dial and hands.

>>53875057
At least you're hopefully not so old that you remember when watches didn't have date quickset mechanisms. Those old Omega automatic 5xx and 7xx movements are great but setting the right date when you haven't worn the watch for a few weeks is the biggest pain in the ass ever.

Well the Constellation for example at least has a screw-in caseback with a weak little rubber gasket so that's at least marginally better, not that I would want to get it wet either. I would say any vintage watch even if it was originally water resistant or "waterproof" is suspect unless you get it serviced and pressure tested. But seriously just don't be an idiot and drench it with sweat like I did and don't splash water all over it and you'll be fine.

People act like Leicas are incredibly expensive, but for just a plain cosmetically beat up but functionally perfect M3 and 50mm Summicron I paid less than most people would happily pay for digital cameras so I don't really see the big deal.

Rolex and Leica are pretty similar now that you mention it, though. Both came up with some amazing innovations in their prime and changed everything and were truly the best in their day, but they got usurped by cheaper and better technology from Japan and now they just sell overpriced luxury bullshit to Chinese people.

No man that's the polished case 090, the matte case has a sandblasted finish. I know the OEM bezel is polished but it has the numbers and indices to break things up. I'm worried that a big chunk of polished steel will contrast too much with the sandblasted case and it'll look dumb and I'll have wasted my money.

Annoyingly, Timefactors.com is closed to further orders until the 26th of April. I was going to order a strap earlier and saw the message when I tried to add it to my cart.

Did you really have to go out to your car to take a pic of your watch? Geez the insecurity is strong in this one.

Watch in front of a steering wheel is a popular meme.

>The item does not care how it is replicated unless it is key factor for the end result.
News flash, the process determines the result and is very relevant. There's only a few times where different processes are truly interchangeable, and they're often earlier in the materials processing or coarse machining.

>Also:
>Replica: a copy exact in all details
I'm not sure how you think that's inconsistent with anything I've said. Certainly you aren't stupid enough to think those Chinese mushrooms you yourself gave as an example are making a copy "exact in all details," they are only trying to barely mimic the most outward appearance of a well-made watch of whatever brand they are copying at the time. They don't care about any of the important technologies or qualities of actually well-made watches. This is a technology board, they aren't even attempting to take into account the details that theoretically should be important to us.

And this is why we know that people who buy those watches also don't care about any of the important technologies or qualities of well made watches in that purchase. They could almost always spend their amount of money on a vintage or modern piece thats engineering efforts were more focused on a quality movement, materials and finishing for the price rather than a maker that is dumping their budget into trying to copy an applied logo of a crown or print in the same font as some company actually making good watches.

This is not to say that all people with impressive watches necessarily care about, or even understand, the technologies that go into it. I'm sure we've seen lots of examples, online or offline, of individuals who have very expensive or well made watches for lots of mundane and uninteresting reasons, like trying to be a member of perceived 'club of nice-watch-havers' or trying to flaunt wealth.

>And this comes from a guy who paid over 3.5k$ for a watch...
Yes, I'm sure we're all very impressed.

Furfag, as much as you're really making a good counter argument against both his stupid claims and reps in general (And you really covered quite a bit here).

You shouldn't forget you're arguing with a retard.

Nice Sinn, I'm not a huge fan of that strap though.

Right now my erection throbs the most vibrantly for 556i.

556i is definitely way nicer than the 556a. Can't beat the simple designs sometimes.

The version with indices also has a jetblack dial compared to the matte on 556A. Plus the date is at three-o-clock (feels more natural for me).

Why is the diving bezel "essential"?

You're not diving with any of those watches
>>
>>53881055
It's very useful for timing, you don't have to dive to enjoy such a feature.

Are there any statistics on wrist sizes? I am curious if small wrists are really in the minority.
>>
>>53881295
A cursory Google search says the average adult wrist size is 7.17 inches and correlated with height.

Is it odd that I really like the worn out looks of this watch? Bought it this morning. My first Vostok, btw.
>>
>>53881639
Despite the Vostok 2209 movement being pretty much bombproof, you might want to start praying that it's in better shape then the exterior of the watch.
>>
>>53881295
What's the average wrist size in /wt/? Mine is 6.7".
>>
>>53881639
Not necessarily weird, if you can pull off the look. If you can't, it will look really stupid, but I guess it doesn't really matter if you don't care.

He could say what he wants. But these xoxols are dodgy little fuckers, you'll probably find a surprise in it at some point.

I'd advise you to order a new strap while you're at it.

Mine are about 7.2~

But some watches wear very oddly and somewhat uncomfy on me because of the large wristbone, so i wear them on it or slightly below it.

6".

It's the reason why I'm starting to steer away from 40mm+ watches. Pretty much everything above that looks stupid.

It does that when it begins to rust.

Looks fine to me, plenty of hairsprings have bends like that. They're not really supposed to be a perfect spiral shape. This Raketa for example may be all dirty and shitty and full of pubic hairs, but the hairspring itself is perfectly fine and you can see the distinct bends and the Breguet overcoil.
>>
>>53884083
Well you may be right.
The twisted part could also be the result of a little shock when it was serviced.
>>
>>53884206
Seems just slightly bent.

The real issue with it is that it's a franken with an incorrect bridge. It should be a 2209 not 2214.
