How do I decide which monitor to buy?
Seeing them in store conditions is like deciding on computer chair after 5min of sitting

Can you recommend any non-shill legit reviewers?

get pic related and shut the fuck up

monitors aren't rocket science

But a 27" Asus rog 1440p 144hz ips that's all you have to do

Get this one.

I have a Dell U2715H. It's great, the resolution/size is perfect for unscaled graphics, really great to work with. The backlight is kind of uneven though. If you are sensitive to issues like that, you might be disappointed. Personally, I don't really care. It seems to be a widespread issue though.
>>
>>53862584
I have been quite underwhelmed with well received PC monitors in the past

I watch movies and black levels are so disappointing. Dark scenes are shit. It's like manufacturers only care for the gaymer crowd
>>

b-but thats the evil corp's monitor
>>

get a fucking apple 5k monitor or whatever resolution they are these days

>>53862561
this.

Dell ultrasharp and move on with life or you will be swallowed in to the depths of /g/ and never have a quality monitor.
>>
LCDs are universally trash. Just buy whatever cheap shit and wait for OLED monitors to become affordable.
>>
>>53862503
I always buy Samsung.

I'm using S24D390, because HDMI.

Breddy dang gud with my Debian.
>>
>>53862967
OLED won't be affordable till 2030.
>>
>>53862798
Nah, evil corp and Dell are not the same. There's some actual Dell products with logo and everything in that show, so they're not the same. ;>)

bullshit. OLED TVs are already under 2000 dollars.

I fell for the ultrasharp meme once. Never again.
Got myself a S2715H instead

tftcentral and prad.de. You may have to use Google Translate with prad as most of their reviews aren't in English.

>>53863335
>S2715H

I was thinking about getting one of these for my
PS4
. How is it? I know the panel is glossy but in a controlled environment this should result in better colours.
>>
Samsung and LG have some VA panel models.
Is this actually better or a meme?

>>53862503
Decide what you're looking for in a monitor (resolution, color accuracy, size, DPI, contrast, viewing angles, refresh rate, input lag, response time, etc.) and then try to find an accurate review that displays actual measurements of the screen's performance.
>>
I got a Dell 23.8" monitor and loving it so far. Might get a second since it is on sale for $175-ish.

Get your pic op. The touch buttons can be a pain but otherwise it's comfy
>>
If you are not a gaymer OP (or want to do actual work with your pc) then try to find a 16:10 monitor.

The meme is worth it.
>>
>>53864126
A lot of computer programs don't run in 4K natively. I still want to have capable hardware in my future desktop build to run a 4K monitor when 4K is a standard.
>>
I have an old Gatweway lcd monitor that is 19" 1440x900 16:10. Don't really like it. Tried to give it away to thrift stores but they wouldn't take it.

It still works, but throwing it away would be a waste. I might find a personal use for it sometime.
>>
>>53864192
>not 21:9
Do you even meme?
>>
>>53864192
I have a 16:10 1680x1050 monitor.

The narrow black bars on the top and bottom for anything multimedia related is a lil annoying but it's fine.
>>
>>53862503
If you get a Dell wiki the model and make sure the display is made by LG or Samsung

Dell sometimes gets shitters to manufacture their shit like Lenovo
>>
>>53862738
That's an inherent flaw of IPS panels. If you want better blacks, get VA. But VA comes with its own problems because fuck you go spend $5k on OLED you bitch.
>>
>>53865130
What are VA panels' problems? Except response time ofc
>>
why are monitors so expensive? They cost more than my used thunkpad.

NEC PA242W or get a second job. Anything without 16:10 ratio is shit

what about size difference?
Do you guys prefer 24in or 27in for gaymen?
I'm looking for a 1080p monitor for this but i feel like 27in would be too big for me (especially since im moving up from a 21.5in)
what do you guys think?

>falling for the 4K monitor meme when both dell and apple have 5k available.
>>
>>53862503
I bought Dell U2414H one year ago and I've very very very happy with it, best monitor I had until now.
>>
>>53862503
I have a 2715Q and my god is it beautiful. Was doing some video editing in premiere and I can see 10 video and audio tracks, the while video in 1080p in one corner, clip preview in 1080p in the other corner, and another 1920x1080 section for source browsing/selection. Once you go 4k you can't go back
>>
If it isn't ultrawide and 1440p IPS then end yourself
>>
I have a Dell U2414H and an Acer G257HU 1440p IPS monitor. They're both pretty good.
>>
>>53867471
I went from 1080p 22'' to 1440p 27'' monitor. Besides the difference in resolution, the actual size is great. I would recommend it.
>>
>>53862690
>the backlight is kind of uneven though
Fucking hate this in monitors. How hard is it to create an evenly lit fucking screen without uniformity correction? I hate it when a solid color comes up on the screen and seeing all the darker/lighter areas.
I'd much rather have a 1080p IPS monitor with perfect uniformity and no bleed than a 4k 144Hz IPS monitor with qc issues.
>>
>>53862503
Can't verify non-shillness but tftcentral tries to be objective
>>
>>53865167
Black crush, slow response time (not a big deal), poor viewing angles (better than TN, though) and gamma shift. They're also mostly 1080p 60Hz.
OLED is garbage because it burns in way too easily.
>>
>>53867091
It does, but it has fairly poor contrast (700-1300:1 compared to VA's 3500-4500:1).
>>
>>53863574
>the panel is glossy
Get ready to see your face every time a dark scene in a movie/game comes up. There's literally nothing you can do about it. Even the smallest bit of ambient light creates glare. I personally don't like that at all.

Not that great in my opinion. The PPI is just too low. Stick with ~23-24" if you're getting a 1080p display.
1440p 25-27" monitors are not that expensive, either. Get one if you can.

Im wit dis fammember

Youll almost always wish you had a bigger screen for gaming, but as long as you never go somewhere and game on a bigger screen,. you just wont know what you are missing, so alls good.

Id buy the 27 if its mostly for gaming, 1080p starts to seem too small at that size though.
>>
>>53868073
Have none of these problems with my BENQ EW2440L, although the contrast can stop me seeing dark things properly even at max brightness, banding is pretty bad sometimes unless it's just the pic/site being shit I don't know. Viewing angles don't even change and the response time is 4ms, backlight bleed is obvious tho rip.

Gonna get that AOC ultrawide and join the ultrawide masterrace meanwhile avoiding the curved shitmeme
>>
I have a U2415 and some random LG monitor. Probably gonna dump the LG onto someone else and get another U2415.

Does anyone know if Dell has any sales in the summer? Not too keen on dropping close to $650(CAD) on a monitor. I have the one now because of a sale and a stronger dollar.
>>
I just buy Ultrasharps from Dell Outlet.
>>
>>53868427
>although the contrast can stop me seeing dark things
That's black crush. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
>banding is pretty bad sometimes
6 bit screen?
>Viewing angles don't even change
They do, just not as much as TN.
>response time is 4ms
If it's a 60Hz monitor, it means nothing. Anything below 16ms gtg is the same as 1ms on 60Hz monitors. Input lag is what matters.

Do you have to move your head at all while gaming? How far back do you guys sit also?
Im looking at a 144hz freesync monitor for online fps and things of the sort, not so much the cinematic experience. Also, i can get the 24inch and 27inch for the same price at the moment.
>>
>>53868512
B-but I thought VA had superior blacks
>>
>>53868559
No, I sit a pretty average distance?

I have the Asus Rog PG279Q. I love my 27''. Honestly I went from a 290x to a 980ti. So the difference has been astounding. I can only ramp up a few games to meet the 144hz sadly, but I do not regret my purchase. Also mostly because I can go return my shit and just get another better improved one.
>>

>>53868716
I bought my stuff with warranty from the microcenter. Depending on how much the item is I can just purchase $60-$80 warranty for something like a GPU. I can return it when it becomes faulty or experiences problems. Hell even when I first started shopping there the guy who sold me my gpu told me he does it all the time. That is how I went from a 560ti to a 980ti without having to spend much money. That being said, I actually had to return a faulty 290x and fury x.
>>
I feel like display technology is moving so fast right now it would be stupid to buy any monitor...
>>
>>53867471
unless you sit 5 feet away from your monitor or have eye problems, 24 inches is as large as you should ever go with 1080p.

either way, it's 2016 so why are you not looking at 1440p? it's sweet as fuck and it goes from 24 to 32 inches without any scaling issues, just pick what you prefer
