I have no idea. It's been months since I even used Skype on this phone, and I haven't used it more than five or six times total.
I mean, I do have several groupchats that are years-long that get almost a thousand messages a day, so maybe it was trying to hold all of that in a really poor storage format? It's only a 400 mb database on my laptop but maybe they fucked something up on android

That's because the Skype folder is inclusive of the Cache folder in that diagram. The non-cache portion of the Skype block is whatever the difference between the folder sizes is.

Not sure about the Skype, but a lot of the cross platform apps aren't written with the native languages or native toolkits. Instead, they use cross platform toolkits which makes things easier on the devs, and allows more code sharing. The downside is the final app has to bring along a fuckton of the toolkit helper libs which act as shims between the native libraries and the cross-platform code.
