I have an opportunity to get a good deal on the Surface Pro 4 (i5 - 8gb RAM version) for work.
>email + office suite
>photoshop / illustrator
>lite video work in premiere

I like the hardware, but I'm really concerned with windows 10 botnet shit. I've lurked around here and some forums and gotten mixed answers if you can turn all the shit off or not. Looking at what are obvious M$ shills here is a bit alarming.

>Can I turn EVERY spyware off? Or block it somehow?
>Can I turn off Auto updates?
>Does working in a VM protect me?
>Would Veracrypting the disk save me from their NSA backdoor?
>Can I pirate a version w/o spyware and reinstall? Either way I'd want to reformat with enterprise edition, not home that it comes with. I'm told win7 & 8 doesn't work on it.
>>
>>53862100
All questions are no, except last, which would be a clean Win7 SP1 with disabled updates, but you'd lose your Office and other good shit most likely. Basically, Microsoft spies on you, and there's no way around it.
>>
>>53862100
Oh, 7 won't work? No, there is no non-spyware Win10. Take it or leave it.
>>
>>53862138
That's depressing. I'll have to find another computer then sadly. It was quite an enjoyable piece of hardware to use.

>>53862177
7 won't boot at all apparently. 8.1 doesn't have the right drivers for any of the hardware buttons.
>>
Torrented versions not safe from M$ bullshit either?

Install 64bit Enterprise pre-activated

What about using peerblock to block the telementry?

in what way? that I don't want my personal data and metrics exploited?
>>
>>53862100
just pay the fucking adobe subscription and dont do anything shady on your computer.
>>
>>53862787
If you're worried about this now then it's already too late, everything tracks and says on you
>>
>>53862787
Fun fact: your personal data is exploited literally everywhere but for some reason you only care and complain about it when its on your computer.

>I'm not doing anything illegal in my bathroom, why shouldn't I let cameras in?
Looks like the M$ defense force is out in full blast now.

>your personal data is exploited literally everywhere, why do you care about it here?
80% of the windows in your house are broken, why do you care if I break another one?
>>
>>53862100
>Does working in a VM protect me?
You are editing illegal porn or What? Why pick up a tablet and have to working in a VM. If you are that paranoid then just use a laptop with loonix on it

Like I said in the OP, I can get a good deal on the hardware but it's win10 locked. I wanted to know if win10 was fixed yet. It's hard to believe that there are people even ironically defending the spyware.

>>53862904
>>53862852
I am very aware that 99% of internet services etc are tracking people. I go through some extra steps in my day to day operations to cut back as much as I can.

You are correct though, as much as I enjoyed the SP4, I'll have to go with a different piece of hardware.
>>
>>53862873
You retards only bitch when it's Microsoft doing it. Where was all the bitching when literally everything else spies on you?

no, i meant buy another alongside sp 4
>>
>>53863094
Trust me, I have been bitching for years. And while you're right that everything is tracking us, I'm not going to let another thing slip by without putting up some sort of resistance. Even if that means just not buying it.

>>53863124
I could yes. The cost adds up quick with that plan, but could always use the design features on the tablet and core work processes on my desktop when available. Not ideal, but doable if necessary.
>>
>>53863174
So why are you posting on 4chan? Google tracks you through captchas
>>
>>53863174
personally, i'll go with mbp + intuos. i like os x too much and they dont seem to be too invasive in regards to privacy.

>inb4 faggot
>>
>>53863241
Spotlight saves everything you type to Apple's servers just like Cortana does in Windows 10, to me it's all the same shit
>>
>>53863188
I normally don't post. But like you mention, a complete no-footprint lifestyle isn't practical.

>>53862100
It looks like you may be able to disable the UEFI and install win 8.1 (possibly 7 / linux). The main issue there is hardware drivers for the touch pen / volume buttons. Aparently you can import them and allow unsigned drivers to bypass that problem.

>>53863241
I'm not an os x guy myself, but I can see the design appeal. I'm not aware of their invasive-ness since it's not something I ever considered.

what kind of spying could win10 do if you had a dual boot or a VM running win7?

With a VM I guess they would still see your outbound connections, but their other telemetry wouldn't work right?
>>
>>53862873
Just checking something: are you even able to respond to someone without using any straw man argument? Cause that kinda makes you look like a retard and I'm sure you can do better.
>>
>>53864605
What sort of response would you like?
>>
>>53862100
>Does working in a VM protect me?
I would assume running a VM or hyper-v would be compromised as the host OS is compromised
>>
I have that model of surface pro and I really like it. My main computer still has win7 and I mostly use surface for photoshop and browsing so I'm not really concerned about nsa there.
I don't really think you'd want win7 on it though since it isn't that well suited for touch screens and win8 always seemed like vista to me(unfinished and unpolished idk)
>>
>>53862345
>Win10
>not spyware
No.
>>
>>53862100
>>Can I pirate a version w/o spyware and reinstall? Either way I'd want to reformat with enterprise edition, not home that it comes with.
Kind of, it's called Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB.
The problem is that it is behind all the other W10 Editions in terms of updates, so there may be software and driver issues. And it still makes some connections to MS, much less than the other editions, but you only need 1 connection to be spied on.
The only way to 100% avoid Microsoft spying on you is to not use Windows or not connect to the internet.
>>
>>53862100
If its the new 2016 Office you'll need to create a MS account and get no custom install option, so you get awesome shit like one drive with really cool autosync. You can disable the autosync, or so they say. Kill me.
>>
>>53866000
dubtrips confirm win10 for spybot.
>>
>>53867001
What if i don't want an MS account?
>>
>>53867001
I use one drive to back up school work, let's me log into any Wangblows 10 computer and have all my notes there
>>
>>53867173
Ha, then you find a copy of 2010 or get 2013 and activate with a phone number. 2016 absolutely, and with no work arounds that I know of, makes you sign up for a MS account to install.

Youre buying a piece of hardware made by Microsoft, dedicated for software made by Microsoft, and both parts are designed to communicate frequently with Microsoft servers otherwise they no longer work properly.

The device is a telemetry console much like a PS4.
>>
Overall I'm just kinda baffled that nobody has developed a complete fix for the disaster that is w10. Tons of tools, but I doubt any of them are complete.

That's fine for me. I haven't upgraded my W7 since I installed it. No issues.

or torrent and crack it possibly.

>>53867442
Telemetry is the entry point for the most insanely evil aspects of technology. We shouldn't even have to be having this conversation. What a sad world

Lol
>>
>>53867673
This would be in addition to my work computer. Although a SP4 would be massively lighter to carry around, and be my own property.

(Maybe not, I'm sure in M$ ToS they're just "renting" it to customers or some other bullshit)

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/64640-Windows-Firewall-Configuration-Truly-Block-EVERYTHING/page17

This looks like it may be enough to get rid of all the Windows 10 spyware. Although it would have to be tested. Maybe in a VM with wireshark
