I use OS X. I recently installed little snitch and have been amazed at the random, and not-so-random, calls El Capitan makes to apple services.
For example, whenever is "su" in terminal, little snitch pops up and warns me that apple auth services are trying to connect to remote apple endpoints. Since I installed Windows 10 the strain on my hard Drive has been 100% all the time. I turned off Windows Search and some other process Today and it's around 5% now.
