Is there a reason to buy the R9 380X (1.02GHz, GDDR5 4GB, 190 Watts, 240€) over the R7 370 (1.02GHz, GDDR5 4GB, 120 Watts,170€)?
Also the GeForce GTX 960 would be about 200€ and have a better Clock Speed.

Basically pic related is the parts I was thinking about to get.
But I'm also not sure about the MoBo. Should I stick to a more expensive H170 Board (or a Z170 with the same price?) or go with the cheaper B150. The B150 does what I need, but it's a microATX instead of an ATX. Could that be a problem considering space and maybe warm air management?

If I don't intend overclocking is the i5-6500 still more recommended than the i3-6100 for let's say playing Arma3?

Regarding the PSU my question is, if it says the estimated Watts is below 300W, would I be good with a 430W PSU? Or do I need at least 500W?

I know it's a lot of stupid questions. I'd appreciate any help on improving this.

1)u can never have too much power for PSU
2)380X is better than 960 and 370, so if u want for gaming, then yeah sure, if for shitposting and browsing web then stick with 370
>>
While you can always spare wattage, what's not used is pretty much wasted. Get one that suits your energy draw plus some headroom without going completely overboard
Like, if you draw 400 watts, get a 550w 80plus psu. At least thats how I do it.

I guess main use will be browsing and shitposting. Most demanding game would be Arma3 I guess. Would that run on medium or high settings with an i5-6500 + r7 370 at reasonable fps?

>>53859140
More than 1080p is not my plan. Wouldn't the 2GB GDDR5 be not enough for Arma3?

the 380X is much faster

>Also the GeForce GTX 960 would be about 200€ and have a better Clock Speed.
clock speed is not the only thing that determines how good a graphics card is

>Should I stick to a more expensive H170 Board (or a Z170 with the same price?) or go with the cheaper B150
cheaper B150

>The B150 does what I need, but it's a microATX instead of an ATX. Could that be a problem considering space and maybe warm air management?
if you get an ATX mid tower it doesnt matter because mATX is smaller motherboard than ATX so it will fit.
and it makes no difference for heat.

>If I don't intend overclocking is the i5-6500 still more recommended than the i3-6100 for let's say playing Arma3?
yes. very much yes.

>would I be good with a 430W PSU? Or do I need at least 500W?
yea but you should get at least 500W in case you ever want to upgrade. plus there's really no price difference between a 430W and a 520W unit.
>>
Thinking of selling my i5-2500k and upgrading for incoming VR, what should I get? Will only be playing games on it, selling both my mobo (asus p8 z68V) and cpu.
>>
>>53859229
medium yes. need a R9 380 to play it on high

also there is no reason to choose a Z170 motherboard if you are not going to overclock (neither the i5 or the i3 you mentioned can overclock) so it's just a waste of money, and your budget does not allow overclocking anyway.
>>
>>53859229
>Wouldn't the 2GB GDDR5 be not enough for Arma3?
no, textures need more VRAM. get at least 4GB VRAM on the GPU.

yes.

>>53859229
The price for more memory is not that significant. You can find ways to use it later (i.e. light video rendering/editing/3D modeling etc.)

You can play Arma3 on 1440p on Ultra Quality just fine even with a gtx 690 (pic related). It will probably lead to some tearing in fact if you use a 60Hz monitor on 1080. Not sure if the game and your monitor have G-sync/FreeSync but put your monitor on 75Hz in any case. Anyway get something newer for better performance and longevity down the line. A 380X should do great. Not sure if you can overclock a 380 but if you can, definitely get it over the 780.

>>53859009
Regarding power supply, the 380 consumes 190Watts, depending on your CPU (probably 60-75W) you'll need some 300Watts minimum. For a single GPU system you'll be fine with 450 (be sure to get a GOOD, RELIABLE PSU -- don't skimp on the PSU it's possibly THE MOST important component in your build). A Gold certified PSU will save you money in the long run. Anywho like I was saying, if you have optical drives/a couple of HDDs, a bunch of fans/USB devices/or plan to have a CF/aftermarket CPU cooler/water cooling eventually/etc, it's a good idea to get a 500-550W PSU especially if you might overclock something eventually. A 450W would do but I'm not sure how it would fare if you want to overclock something but there are online calculators that can help you with that. You might be able to pull off a CF with a 550W psu eventually if you'd rather spend another $200 for another 380X eventually instead of buying a new card for more but you wouldn't have room for overclocking or much else at all. But it'll manage.

tl;dr if you want a single GPU system a 450W PSU is fine. If you plan to eventually have a CF or watercooling etc. a 550W+ PSU is a better investment. You can play Arma3 on ultra quality settings just fine on all the cards you're considering. Don't get something with 2GB of VRAM.
>>
>>53859356
>The price for more memory is not that significant. You can find ways to use it later
it's VRAM. anything under 4GB for a game made in the last 2 years is gonna struggle with high settings and will get raped by upcoming games.
>>
>>53859405
> will get raped by upcoming games.
Exactly. I was suggesting he get something with more VRAM than a 2gb 780ti/960. The game he wants to play has very low requirements but getting an old card with little VRAM will like you said struggle quite a bit with newer games. He'll be forced to buy a new card or have buyer's remorse when he can't properly play a new game the way he wants to. Besides that, he might explore some hobbies and use the additional VRAM and processing power for things like video editing/3D modeling. Getting a cheap, relatively new card makes more sense.

After spending an hour trying to calibrate and position a cheap subwoofer/speaker set (an SBS A250) that doesn't have any knobs to control the subwoofer strength, I managed to get the sound I want by literally shoving a piece of tissue paper into the subwoofer opening at the front (the hole at the front of pic related).

There are still revolutions to be had and great software to be developed, but to be honest it's looking more and more like a bubble that could collapse at any time. People are paying far too much for simple software, but because supply is always lagging behind the prices are high.

Imo you can still get rich off IT, but you'll need some creativity, some way to be a cut above the rest. It's not so much about the A+ but the skills that will give you an A+;

that's just my opinion though, grains of salt required
>>
>>53859658
No problem at all. You just muted it a bit and changed its intended frequency response.
>>
>>53859717
Well, part of the reason of getting the A+ is to prove, in theory, that I have the technical skills required for A+ work. But I'm concerned whether or not that's enough to land a decent job making decent money right away. Not that I'd be planning on just resting on that A+ for the rest of my life but if it's enough to be comfortable for a little while before I get more ambitious.
>>
>>53859695

I rather not waste money on it.
>>
>>53859894
What do you consider 'decent money'?

You could likely land an easy first-tier tech support for entry-level salary in your area, $28k-$45k depending on cost of living, something like $45k only in San Fran.
>>
>>53859912
40K seems pretty decent. NYC here. But I'd content being in the 30s for the time being. Much more than I make now. I don't believe A+ to be enough for 40, though

So there's a bunch of trucks fitted with dashcams writing .mov files to sd cards. What's the best way to archive old footage? Save it all to ext hdds, or should it be compressed/zipped or whatever first?
>>
>>53859995
zipping video files probably won't do much. depending on the .mov encoding you might try to reencode the videos with a high efficiency encoding like h265 using high quality settings.
>>
>>53859603
Both can accommodate a CF since they have 3x 6+2 connectors. The xfx is a tier above the silverstone in terms of quality but this shouldn't matter. The important bit is the cpu/socket your motherboard supports and whether or not the PSU is haswell compatible. Both of them are. Shame about the prices. I'd say go with the 600W since it's cheaper and provides more power. The xfx is higher quality but more expensive and can provide less power. At least you're saving a good bit of money by getting a 370.
>>
>>53859995
Depends on how much space you have.

Ideally, you have terabytes of storage available at a colocation and you keep everything saved lossless from the recordings.
>>
>>53860071
>>53860104
Cheers. I'll see how the cam encodes the .mov, but hdd space is cheap anyway
>>
>>53860097
They're also SLI compatible so if you want to get a 960 you can do that too. On high/very high at 1080 the 370 would give you 30~40fps and a 960 40~50fps and lower wattage too. Whether or not the extra ~$35 is worth it is your call. But you'll be saving some money on the silverstone so you might as well get the 960 if it's 4Gb.

Is there anyway to force standard usb storage mount for my android phone(4.4.4)? I'm so sick of mtp's bullshit.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the reason google went with mtp was because there was some issue with both the PC and phone having write access to the storage simultaneously and this was causing conflicts.

I'd even settle for a method that requires me to power off my phone for the duration of the mount(only PC has write access), so I can connect my phone, copy a couple hundred songs at once and disconnect without mtp shitting itself.

So Anons, how do I get it working. I hear it spinning, and I believe I have it properly plugged in, but I don't really know what I would do here to get it working.
>>
>>53864619
It's slow, I haven't done anything to improve performance but bone stock even after that update that was supposed to fix lag apps will stop responding frequently, will lag for seconds at a time going through menus in apps, etc.

The one positive thing I can say is the apps that lag weren't stock Android, all the stock stuff works great and quick with no lag at all. Snapchat for instance though just doesn't work quickly on this phone, ever.

Can you get noticeable performance increases by rooting the phone over bone stock Android?

open ssh socks
 ssh -TND 1234 usr@addrs -p22

open chromium with socks5
chromium --proxy-server=socks5://localhost:1234 icanhazip.com

Everything works fine and i can use the internet like normal, other programs using the ssh socks work fine like curl.

But completely randomly i will get
Connection to port 8588 forwarding to socks port 0 requested.

repeating 10+ times in the log and then the socks proxy COMPLETELY locks up. Curl doesn't work, chromium times out, and refreshing the page or restarting socks doesn't work.

However while the socks proxy is locked up i can still ssh to the machine which is/was hosting the socks proxy, which is on a different network, and it's internet is fine.

Also:
If i ssh to the other machine while the proxy is locked up and run wireshark on the ssh port i see nothing until the socks proxy "unlocks".

I have an optimization problem, but I don't know how to figure it out

Consider the following table:
   a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r
1 x x x
2 x x x
3 x x x x x x
4 x x x
5 x x x x x x
6 x x x
7 x x x
8 x x x x x x
9 x x x
10 x x x
11 x x x x x x
12 x x x x x x
13 x x x
14 x x x x x x
15 x x x x x x
16 x x x
17 x x x x x x
18 x x x x x x

[1-18] are different items. [a-r] are tests I can run to determine what an item is. An "x" indicates if an item will return true for a test, and a blank will return false. For example, if I run test "a" and it returns true, then I know the item I have is either item 10, 11, or 12. If I then run tests "e" and it returns false, then I know the item I have is not item 11, so thus it's 10 or 12, and I'd run test h to figure it out.

Each test is expensive to run, so I want to run as few tests as possible on average. Could someone point me in the right direction on a way to solve this?

Not that reliable if you'll be pushing it to its limits i.e. sli/cf/overclocking etc. but if you're not going to do any of those it's fine.

Either get a noctua nh-c14 (more aesthetic+better+more silent cooling) or more ram (i.e. 8gbx2 (you can push more than 8gb if you get used to the idea of having more ram and/or video edit/3d model etc. since you're getting an i7)) imo desu

Best experience I've had is with WD
Never had one fail on me, where as I've lost several seagates over the years
>>
>>53866744
Yeah, I've got some WD externals that have done me good over the years.
Any experience with Hitachi? I've read that they're really good, but wanted to ask around here for more opinions before deciding on one.

were the hdd and ssd on the same SATA power ? can you try different SATA power if that was the case?

so the difference between oop and procudral programming is all about that we can include methods in the structures of C?

I just can't seem to understand how you couldn't do something with procedural programming.

>>53866812
They were on different ones just due to where they were located in the case. it was more convenient to do so. So I should move them them onto the same sata power cable then and that should fix my issues?
>>
>>53866843
no no i was suggesting you do the opposite. is your PSU any good?

Yeah, EVGA 750 watt gold standard that meets the system's power requirements twice over.

How the fuck do I set up a wireless internet connection on Fedora? Only network options are VPN, Bond, Team, Bridge and VLAN
>>
>>53866812
Yeah, I'm having a hard time explaining this problem simply. I'm essentially trying to determine a webserver's many to many relationship by bruteforce, modifying my response and looking at the results.

The closest analogy I can think of would be like having an unknown chemical. This chemical is one of 18 chemicals possible (the 1 though 18 rows). You can preform a test on the unknown chemical and see if it reacts to the test. You have 18 tests (the a though r columns). I have to find out what chemical it is though a process of elimination.

Does that example help, or just muddle it more?

you need to install wifi drivers first. They might not be in the official repositories, so you can add the RPM Fusion repos (rpmfusion.org) for non-free drivers and such. To find out which wifi card you have run
lspci

then something must be wrong with your mobo. try clearing cmos or resetting bios. try different SATA ports for either drive. make sure your hdd is getting powered (should be spinning) when you have the ssd connected.
>>
>>53867026
Alright boss, I'll try that out. it's good to know that it's not the HDD itself. At least I have a lead on the matter.

So the end result should be I see both in the bios screen right?

i've decided to opt for a 6600k to save some money. i don't do any video editing to i think 8gigs RAM will be fine for me. the noctua cooler just looks like a fedora to me; expensive hipster shit. i don't really want it. i just want a purely functional gaming PC
>>
>>53867085
Clearing the CMOS seems to have fixes it. Perhaps it was because I had it overclocked? Is 750 watts enough for overclocking like that?

Recently, at some random point in time for reasons I can't comprehend, h264 just stopped working on my computer.

I use VideoPad for vid editing and lately everything I try to export fails right off the bat if I try to use h264 as my encoder.

This was never a problem before and I don't know what could have changed on my computer to make it stop working. A lot of stuff seemed to suddenly start working wrong or stop working altogether semi-recently for reasons unknown, which is scary enough, but this is one of the most annoying things.

Is there an easy way to fix this?
>>
>>53867265
having USB means it has a built in DAC. could be better or worse than your current DAC. (probably built in motherboard)

>>53867221
a russian one. paid with bitcoins.

>>53867294
Yeah I'll do some tinkering now that I know what the issue is. Thank you again Anon. I'm gonna out everything back in now and play some damn vidya already.

Also, I guess one last stupid question. When it comes to Steam games, can I just move the Steam folders over? As long as they're in the same directory as before it should work right? Cause with how its is set up now I want to use my SSD as my boot drive primarily and relegate most other tasks to my HDD. To save on bandwidth I can just back up the steam apps folder and move it right yeah?
