How does /g/ feel about KDE

Plasma 5 or Plasma 4?

What's the best distro for KDE?

It's fine. This type of shit should just keep out of my way, and this does

>How does /g/ feel about KDE
Used to love it, since it was the only sane DE, meant for getting shit done.
Then the fuckers decided to "invent" 4, which was a broken, unstable, useless piece of shit. But recently, it got really good again. 4.14 is essentially perfect.
But we can't have that, can't we? So here we are again, and the KDEdiots "upgrade" to 5, and its a broken, unstable, useless piece of shit.
Tried it for a while, and after every single fucking update, every single fucking icon has a new look, that has nothing to do with the function/filetype it should show, whereas all kinds of bugs get ignored, or even added.

>Plasma 5 or Plasma 4?
Well, guess what?
Problem is, no distro besides EPEL7 ships 4 anymore (I'm currently still on fedora20…), but EPEL7 is missing 90% of linux software, thanks to the rpmfusion fuckery…

>What's the best distro for KDE?
suse used to be good, I guess I try that maybe? Or just have a look at lxqt
>>
>>53857173
is lxqt more stable? Does it have the same customizability?

Is trinity still being developed or active

it would be a better world if GTK+ was just killed already

Hating freedom this much
>>
I'll use it when it stops breaking.
>>
Is KDE5 still unstable?
I'm on KDE4 because when I used KDE5 last, it was a buggy mess.
>>
>>53857412
Not when I used it recently on Kubuntu, but YMMV.
>>
>>53857231
I dont know. But I intend to find out. Because at least in theory, it seems like the only sane DE left.

Staying current, without following the total retardation that is the cool thing nowadays, while also not living in the past like >>53857280
(which, btw, according to wikipedia, had its last release one month ago)
>>
>>53857412
It's gotten better.

>What's the best distro for KDE?
This is my big question.
>>
>>53857439
Cool, thanks for the update, I was interested and just wanted to be sure it was safe to use and was still supported
>>
>>53857473
>>53857017
Debian 8 is pretty bloody solid, although it's only Plasma 4 and Kernel 3.16.
>>
>>53857473
openSuSE still takes the cake IMO, though, I really wish there were some current QT4/5 instead of GTK+ browsers, since, Firefox is ass-ugly and has shit integration.
>>
>>53857439
Trinity is maintained by one person, don't use on machines you want to be secure
>>
>>53857511
I'd volunteer to work on Konqueror if I was competent.
>>
>>53857280
Just use Xfce or LXQT for fucks sake. It's sad, but Trinity is a dead end.
>>
>>53857523
Ah, ok thanks.
>>
>>53857567
Using mate at the moment, trinity just caught my interest
>>
>>53857511
>openSuSE
Which version should I use?
Tumbleweed or Leap?
>>
>>53857620
Leap is stable, tumbleweed is development. Neither have live CDs
>>
>>53857173
Gentoo has kde 4 on stable, it's pretty nice tobh
>>
>>53857679
But I mean like, how stable is tumbleweed in practice? How outdated is leap?
>>
>>53857017
It used to be sick. Problem is that they failed to keep it modern in feel. There are some great features, like activities, but that doesn't make KDE feel good to use.

When Gnome 3 started to feel stable and cohesive, I jumped ship. It's by far the best modern DE for GNU/Linux.
>>
>>53857280
https://www.trinitydesktop.org/ Yes, it is. but honestly use Plasma, just make sure the distro you're using ships with a recent version of QT for it to run smoothly.
>>
>>53857717
but gnome is so butt-ugly, even if you use themes
>>
>>53857717
GNOME 3 has always lagged on my machines, even where KDE runs okay.
>>
>>53857017
Wait for kde Neon and enjoy the most advanced DE available.
>>
>>53857017
I like it, it has more features than GNOME. Aka: it isn't so "minimalist / phone interface" and more desktop-like.

I can't say what it's the best distro, but Kubuntu is shit. Really. The Plasma version shipped on 15.10 is fucking broken.

Fedora 23 works really god with KDE imo.

Arch + KDE here.

I feel like Plasma 5 in the 5.6 release is quite stable already.

About a distro, why not use the official KDE OS distro, https://neon.kde.org ?
>>
Chakra Loonix
>>
>>53857716
Not him but bump
>>
>>53862051
Ever since 5.6 was released Plasma is actually quite stable.
But as long as you don't depend on gtk apps your system should be fast
>>
>>53857173
>every single fucking icon has a new look
Just switch to Oxygen.

There are people on /g/ RIGHT NOW who think that only GTK has multiple themes.
>>
>>53862108
Are distros using 5.6 now? Supposedly my biggest issues were supposed to be fixed with the 5.6 Qt upgrade.
