I love Firefox but every month it gets slower and glitchier, and sometimes it's practically unusable now. Does Chrome avoid this, or is it perhaps a problem with my MacBook Pro? What does /g/ recommend?

I'm using both Chrome and Firefox, both of them work the same for me without any problems what so ever and both are as fast. It's most likely your CuckBook Pro.

check for malware, your system's probably fucked.

also, disable all your addons and test. 9 times out of 10 slowness in firefox is caused by something 3rd party.

have you tried doing a barrel roll?

dunno chromium works amazingly well on my distro compared to firefox so i'm using that now. hasn't crashed yet

turn hardware acceleration on, check and see if it's using your GPU. If yes, turn it off and see if it changes anything. If no, then turn it on and see if it helps.

Also I don't have issues with Firefox slowdowns, but it is a massive CPU/memory hog in general compared to other browsers. The CPU hogging is mostly caused by add-ons and extensions that are installed. Memory is from having too many tabs open usually (but sometimes it still hogs anyway).

I would suggest switching to Seamonkey if you don't care too much about all the latest add-ons because it runs a whole lot smoother and is much more lightweight.

OP here, I use Firefox specifically for the add-ons, more specifically Rikaichan and Peraperakun (Japanese and Chinese pop-up dictionaries). They don't work with the latest version of Firefox, so I prevented Firefox from updating manually (I'm locked at 42.0).

Found your problem.

I grew up with Windows but switched to OSX in 2008 because Windows doesn't have Logic Pro. My hand was forced.

I mostly prefer Firefox and it runs really well on my Thinkpad. I've switched to Chromium on my slow ass netbook though since Firefox proved too slow.
