What does /g/ think about the future of void linux? Is this the arch killer? it uses runit instead of systemd since people hate that and it's rolling release. However, it's also not the most mature distro as of now, doesn't have all that much documentation, and I have no clue how good the official repositories are or if it has an AUR-like replacement.

>inb4 shill please leave
I use arch on my laptop currently
>>
>AUR-like replacement
you can contribute packages through github
>>
>>53847757
Tbh I like systemd so I don't really care about Void myself. I anyone else likes it. Good for you.
>>
>>53847784
what do you mean?
>>53847794
i'm not good enough at linux to even really care or know how to use/misuse systemd i haven't had a problem with it (at least not to my knowledge) but what didn't you like about it?
>>
>>53847757
I think Void is just as good as Arch
The downside is of course no AUR
>>
>>53847757
If you want a minimal system and hate systemd it's a very good option.

However you can install OpenRC if you're using Arch:
http://systemd-free.org/

I've never tried it though so I don't know how well it works.

Arch killed itself.
>>
>>53849540
keep trying, anon. i believe in you. you will install Arch one day!
>>
>>53849540
tl;dr

Crying about how awful Arch is makes you just as bad as the Arch users who brag about it.
>>
Until we get a distro which shares at least the two things I like about Arch--the AUR and the obscene amount of documentation--I won't bother switching.
>>
>>53849627
>documentation
Yeah the Arch wiki is great but you can literally use it for any distribution
>>
>>53847757
>no systemD
good luck finding a GUI to run on it in the next few years then.

Gnome already requires it.
>>
>>53849540
The fact that someone took time to make this is astonishing

You are 3 days behind April 1st retard
Good one though
>>
>>53849829
Gtk+ 3 requires it
KEK WAYLAND REQUIRES IT
>>
>>53847757
already using it. Sure, some packages may be not in the repos (eg. mpdviz), but all the popular ones are there. coming from arch - xbps is faster. I like the syntax similarities with pacman.

Arch killer? nah. They're on oar each with cons and pros.

I think you misunderstood me. I like systemd. But I think if you want to know why some people like it and others detest it. You probably should google the debate. There are loads of essays that view the discussion from most angles. With that you can probably make up your mind on your standpoint in this for yourself.

>>53849540
I couldn't even get through half of this shit. If you don't like arch don't use it. Whining isn't going to do anything but make you seem like a pathetic piss baby who can't install arch.

Wow, this is easily one of the most pathetic efforts I've seen here in a long time. Seek help schizoid.

desu it sounds somewhat condescending. i got triggered by

>you require package signing for security

the way it's phrased makes it sound a bit like "YOU cannot be secure without package signing kek stupid fuccboi"
>>
>>53849540

Is there a way to use a more up to date kernel on ubuntu? I really need some of the newer I/O stuff.
>>
>>53850382

This. I love Gnome so much.
>>
>>53852980
see >>53851375

GNOME is available.
>>
>>53847794
you aren't alone mate--I also prefer systemd
I ain't saying it is the best thing, but I think it is a good step
>>
>>53849540
>distro is complete shit for servers
Indeed it is. This can be understood from the very description of the system.
>which is what hald the world is running linux for
So what? Most distros are shit for server usage. Only good candidates are probably the commercial ones plus Debian/Ubuntu.
>>
>>53853052
With shitty not recommended hacks. Result : guaranteed breakage upon serious updates
get over it. Modern Linux DEs, pulseaudio, wayland, gtk needs systemd. Hipster workaround is not stable
>>
>>53853227
>implying
test it out, update after a month and then you can make the claim from experience.
As i don't use a DE this doesn't affect me, if it's true.
