I guess the CMOS chip is on the bottom right with the white sticker on it?
Do you know where I could find a image or what other system's ROM would work?
Also is it possible to flash with a RasPI?

>>53847433
Been there, done that, cleaned it already.
>>
>>53847415
>>53847428
You could start by filling those empty RAM slots.
>>
>>53847428
...Is there any ram? On computers of that era, ram is checked on startup

It has 640kb+3.5megs (Nvidia wtf) on board.
I was thinking of ordering some for the slots too, but if the problem is the base memory?
>>
>>53847486

Uh, it's still done today, to the point most boards won't even print anything to the screen without it and just BEEP.

I got SMB to work last night and before the sun came up, boom, I restart and see this.

But maybe I should give up with retro stuff, I've had two Amiga 500's, one Macintosh Classic, one ZX Spectrum and one 8086 clone die on me already.. plus another 486 a few years back.

Seriously I have no idea how to fuck this keep happening...
>>
>>53848744
cga like a pro
>>
>>53847415
are you booting it with no SIMMs like that?
have you at least wired it up to a speaker to check for beep codes?
>>
>>53848791
The fuck do you do to your hardware?
Literally the only shit that's ever died on me are Mac IIs due to Apple's infamously poor choice in capacitor manufacturers.
>>
>>53847415
>check for battery and replace it
>make sure the that socketed DIP is seated all the way
>ensure you have a fan blowing across the board, casefan or otherwise
>ensure your power supply is good. the caps in an old PSU are probably shot.
>use an electronics contact cleaner on your memory contacts and the memory socket contacts.
>>
>>53849017
To summarize: contacts and caps.

Clean all the contacts, replace all the caps.

It never had SIMMs in it, as the previous owner told me, also yes, the speaker just bleeps once like it does when you normally turn it on, more additional bleeps or bloops.
>>
>>53849078
read that after I posted

would take >>53849017's advice, you might have fucked up contacts or somehow killed one of the DRAM chips, happens sometimes

I didn't even do much to them except clean them with compressed air...

>>53849017
>>53849051
The battery has been removed and I have NO clue where it could go, anybody can help me with that? I just set the CMOS again every hard-reset, because I was scared puting a battery to somewhere and frying it without knowing where it goes.
I removed and cleaned the AMD CMOS DIP already.
I checked the PSU with a voltmeter, it looks clear good, way good even for it's ages, it rarely got used.
Also the board it has one cap. Only one on the whole board.

Also, cleaning the memory contacts was the very first thing I did. I'm more hoping for a idea to figure out what's exactly the cause of the error to fix it. Like can I get into a diagnostics floppy somehow by skipping memory check with a hardware hack etc? Could I write a custom BIOS with a RasPi? Etc

>>53849235
Man, I would but a PS/2 compatible 486 is hard to come by here, ordering from eBay, the postage would be 3x the price of the unit to where I live.
>>
>>53849196
The battery is that Dallas RTC chip right behind the other black D-sub connector, you'll need to find a replacement.

If you have a steady, cheap source of old gear, I'd check around for a nicer Olivetti box anyway. The SX-25 is probably alright for just an older games box but it's still a little underwhelming if you want to do anything else with it.

Oh thanks, I guessed why its so huge.
This is a Olivetti piece.
A DACpc 425i Manufactured in Italy by Olivetti
(guess the i means Italy? The US ones don't have i.)
I always keep my eyes open to find old gear, but its not easy to come by, thanks.

Yeah, that's why I was suggesting you might want to treat yourself to a more high-end example if you give up on this one, Olivetti made some pretty neat shit, although if you have such bad luck with it, its proprietary nature might not be the best idea.

Might want to take a closer look at the onboard RAM chips, I guess, to see if you can find any blatant looking contact issues.

For a DOS box I don't really want more then a 486DX and 8megs of ram.

Forgot to add!
Could I desolder all the RAM and keep putting them back one by one (starting from base memory)? Would it work with missing chips?
>>
>>53849764
Unless you have sentimental/"just because" reasoning for it, I don't see why you'd need to limit yourself like that, DOS was still a volume seller in the Pentium-90 era, and most "retrogaming" types tend to like mid-'90s Pentium/486 PCI systems for non-3D DOS titles, mostly for compatibility.

I personally run a 486DX/2-66 box for DOS applications that's actually a little older than your system.

>>53849783
It might be possible, but I've never tried it myself, so I can't tell you yes or no for sure.

Either way, it's not like you have anything to lose.
>>
>>53847415
Bah, not even a DX. I ran redhat 5.2 on my 486 dx2 with 8mb of RAM back in the day and holy fuck I feel old.

>>53849997
Yeah, I want something like you have in the end.
And I might just try the RAM, it would be sad trashing it without trying.

>>53850037
Yes you are. Also it has a socket for muh upgradez.
>>
>>53850785
Definitely try fixing it. Even if you find something better down the road, I always like keeping 486SX systems like that around to compare them to high-end iron for the fun of it. An FPU doesn't matter for shit in most applications, but in the applications that do use it, holy shit you notice the difference.

Also, if it has a 487 socket you can keep an eye out for a cheap one on ebay and join the exclusive ranks of the three or four people who've ever actually owned one.
