why? I fell for the meme on release. the buttons broke within a month. sony released like 2 updates for it and stopped once they realised not even the minecraft kids wanted it. I am not even sure how to root the thing.

really wish they'd do an updated version, the "analogue" touchpads were shit, so probably need to copy the 3DS' circle pads, but other than that, it was pretty good, a snapdragon 820 with 3gb of ram and it would sell shitloads.

Sony deliberately launched it underpowered to not steal the thunder from the flagship xperia they launched at the same time.

anything that doesn't require the "analogue" stick is not terrible but it just seem slow compared the iPod touch I had at the same time. I don;t understand why you would gimp it to the level they did, the only problem with gaming on a phone is the controls are horrible, the phone would solve that "gamers" would lap that shit up.

>>
>>53853464
It lasts a few hours of emulating but gets terrible standby battery life, I thought I had a bad battery so I picked up a new one, turns out the phone is just really shitty. Maybe it's better with a custom ROM, I'm still running stock
>>

>>

>>
>>53853501
>>53853560
Oh well, guess I can use that $30 for weed instead. It's a shame Sony finally got their act together with the Vita. I would have loved to use it as a PC gamepad, it had a lot of potential.
>>
>>53853631
Don't listen to him >>53853560 you'll be able to play PS1 games on it for sure
>>
>>53853558
Ah, aiite then, imma try and be a bit more helpful...

First look up the process to unlock your bootloader. It involves entring your IMEI into Sony's website if I recall correctly and having them send you an unlock code.

Then get flashtool from XDA forums, you might need an older version of it because the phone is pretty old - you should find a link somewhere on its section.

Next you might wanna consider upgrading it to say KitKat, if not Lollipop (Lollipop and up is tricky because you definitely need a class 10 SD card to move a part of system partition onto it because of size limitations). If you just want it for game emulation just grab an AOSP rom - no bloat is a good thing on a phone that old. If you want extra features go for Cyanogenmod. For both of those either freexperia or legacyxperia projects should provide you with the files needed.

When you have the zip file with the rom you'll need to extract the kernel from it. It's usually named boot.img and in the root of the zip file.

Then open flashtool and connect the phone to PC in fastboot mode (turn it off, hold up or down volume button or menu - says in the manual on thread, connect it to PC). Flash boot.img first, then the entire ROM zip, then google apps (find link to them in ROM thread, i'm sure they'll provide one).

That should be it. Last 2 paragraphs are usually explained in thread too. Now you have no excuses - good luck.
>>
>>53853573
Eeeeeeehhhhhhh, PS1 is already only okay-ish... Last time I tried on my Xperia Arc anyway..
>>

>>53853679

damn I wanted one, I miss tye physical keyboard so much. Why does it suck?
>>
>>53853746
Android. Get a Classic
>>
>>53846048
I have one of these. Tried to make it an emulation machine but all the ROMs of Cyanogenmod that I use don't seem to support held-input (i.e. when you hold down one of the gamepad buttons it doesn't register it as being held, but rather pressed and released). Makes it impossible to play anything other than shit like Fire Emblem.
>>
>>53853149
Agreed, i see no reason to really get one. Imma do what i did with psp3000 and get a 2nd hand one for cheap near the end of its life

>>
>>53854073
A PSP or the Xperia Play? Buy parts on Ebay, check repair videos och Youtube, it's easier than you think.
>>
>>53854289
The screen on the Xperia play won't turn on anymore. It's actually the second time it happens, the last time was soon after I got it and I could get it repaired quickly. Looking around apparently it's a common problem with this phone, so I'm wary of putting down more money on it.

As for the psp I was thinking of just selling it for parts and getting a Go or a 3000, i need my portable retro gaming fix
>>
>>53848539
It really sucks because the tablet controller has potential for novel game mechanics, especially local coop where you want to hide information from the person you're playing with, and builders. But it's a huge flop, selling less than basically every previous Nintendo console

Back in 2007 I was working for some pooinloo and I had to write a business plan on a company that will sell UMPCs. I did some research and found out they were sorry underpowered hunks of shit and that using a desktop UI on a mobile platform was a recipe for disaster. I handed the business plan in to the pooinloo and he was pissed, but he knew the writing was on the wall (iphone had just been released)

As for the topic, here's the openpandora. It was supposed to be this god of retrogaming but it got delayed so many times it was obsolete when it came out and Android phones ended up being cheaper and faster anyways. And people paid $400 for this sucker.

The Kin isn't forgotten. It's still considered a special level of hell for those of us that worked on it.

Despite the excessive drinking to try and forget all the management bullshit.

But it serves as a lesson as to what happens when engineers aren't allowed to design or have any real input in the process, but instead are left simply to follow instructions from accounting and marketing...

Fuck Microsoft.

(I'm a Microsoft employee and I approve this message)
>>
>>53856845

But it's exactly because of games like this, this console still holds, I don't judge you. I think this is very smart for nintendo, because it doesn't matter how bad the console is, people will buy it for smash, kart, zelda.

But I do like the 3DS. And the vita.
The difference from the Wii U and the Vita is that I think the wii u is really shitty while the Vita is legitimately a good piece of hardware, and correct if I'm wrong, Japan is keeping the Vita alive, isn't it?
