I need to learn node.js and JavaScript to work on the server side of a web application in an internship.
What JavaScript editor is best for me? I've never done WebDev before. SublimeText etc don't even have autocomplete (unlike when I am developing Java in Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA). Why is everyone still using those lightweight editors?

atom, vscode

Because everyone has installed addons.

Aren't you mixing editors and IDEs, by any chance?

sublime&co do autocomplete js just like any other language, but coming from java you might prefer the jetbrain one, it works fine too

wouldn't pointing out such a useless distinction make you a huge faggot?

Just use webstorm.

vim with syntastic pretty works as well

vim
Don't listen to people recommending vim, go with the standard editor, and vim's progenitor, Ed, Ed is the standard editor.

why is there no option to just buy webstrom instead of a subscription.
why is there nothing comming even close to webstorms convinience and functionality.
>>53843138
webstorm hands down
>>53847119
for just an editor i'd go with sublime text, or if you want to be interesting, vim

What are plugins?
Oh by the way if you're a Java baby, don't try to treat Javascript like Java, it will bamboozle you because while it's powerful enough to accomodate a shitty ham-fisted Java pseudoclassical style, its still a very different language.

I use webstorm. My employer buys the licenses as every good employer should do.
It's certainly not the most lightweight IDE. But it's very handy in a lot of ways and if you have 8gb ram at your disposal you shouldn't have trouble running it smoothly
