Any reason to don't buy it?
>>
>>53842827
Yes, you'll run out of space in no time. I said I won't when I bought my 120gb ssd, but I did. Buy a 250gb or, at least, 500gb.
>>
>>53842857
this especially if it's going to be your only drive
>>
>>53842827
If it is your only storage device, buy a bigger SSD, however if you're mixing it in a system with lets say a 1TB HDD, cop that shit soon son.

Of course not, I have drives for storage, it will only be for software

You didn't say anything about th eoperating system or the applications you need to run.

Generally, 250 GB minimum SSD. It will format to about 220 GB, and you'll want to keep at least 10% free (if it gets too full it slows down) ... so that means a "maxed" 250 GB SSD is loaded with ~180 GB os software & applications ... giving you barely 20 GB for an extra application or scratch space for video/photo editing.

You'll be keeping data and slow applications on a HDD anyway. So, your photo archive, anime collection, firefox etc. won't go on the SSD.

Further, the price point per GB is better at 250 GB, and is just now tipping into 500 GB SSDs. I picked up a 240 GB SSD for $55 about six weeks ago, and you can get some with pretty mad performance in the $60-$70 range. Meaning, if you were getting a 120 GB SSD, it should be about $30-$35 to be comparable.

I just started seeing 480 GB SSDs at and under $100 in the last two months. Even at $110, that puts 120 GB of SSD under $30.

Try to find a Crucial MX200 in the price ranges I just listed. You can't tell the difference with a Samsung 850 Pro as far as performance, and a MX200 250 GB SSD goes for under $80 right now. I've seen them at $69.99 delivered a couple times now, and $74.99 nearly every week since they came out.

Also, Corsair SSDs are charging you money for meme performance and reliability. Will it be fast? Yes, compared to an HDD. Will it be reliable? Sort of. Will it be 20%-30% more expensive than other SSDs that deliver the same performance, space & reliability?

You can bet your ass on that.

128gb ssd for OS and applications is perfectly fine if you have a 7200rpm new gen i.e. 500gb/platter hdd.

SSDs are good for system partition only + gaymes. Typical data storage is a stupid idea.
Also kill yourself

How will he lose it tho?
He won't be able to write on it, but he will recover existing data without any problems.

>implying my Intel SSD is going to become read-only in my lifetime
Physically my Intel Pro 1500 SSD is 240GB + 16GB for the purpose of overprovisioning + I left unallocated a lot of space for the same purpose. With my use (system only with hibernation/paging file disabled, prefetch disabled, all drive caches disabled) it's gonna last forever.
>buying different brands than Intel
>>
>>53842969
I was pretty good with that much.
Held Windows
Held FL Studio + plugins
Held other programs (don't really have/need really any programs, besides basics)
Held 3-4 good size games
Held a good bit of smaller size games.
I dont hoard music, or chinese cartoons, I stream my media.

Never the less, I did buy evetually get a second SSD, 240GB, as my internet is tooookk slooooooow to download, delete, redownload games willy nilly.

I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to someone who thinks storage mediums shouldn't have moving mechanical parts
>>
>>53843146

Trying to figure out what you think you're saying here. My conclusion is that you're fucking retarded and don't have any clue.

Standard SSD sizes right now are generally 120 GB and 128 GB, then step up to 240 GB, 250 GB and 256 GB, the next step being 480 GB, 500 GB and 512 GB.

That is how manufacturers market them. In my post I even referred to the fact that when you format them you don't get those numbers.

tl;dr -- go fuck yourself, you smarmy little cunt. I'm using the language that is commonly used when buying & evaluating the SSDs. Don't shit in my face because of market retards who have no fucking clue what they're talking shit about.

Normies don't need storage, they get their video from Netflix, their music from YouTube and their private photos from Facebook.

I dunno m8, I got mx200 and put windows and most of programs there. I don't give a crap, it should last 2-3 years, then I'll just clone it. I'm fine with spending 60 dollarydoos per two years.
>>
>>53843313
Desu familia, it's a pro ssd. I use the same exact ones in my company servers. They're fine even today with constant writing to them since at least a year.
It's not even remotely comparable to my use.
>>
>>53842969

What the fuck do you need a 256 GB SSD for?

Anyone with a functioning brain could run a major productivity workstation off half that capacity. And that's assuming windows fag.

> pro-tip: you put all your pr0nz.mkv files on a mechanical hard drive; SSDs are not data storage

You don't really know how to use an SSD, do you?
>>
>>53843346
you're trying to convince about something that you couldn't even convince yourself about
if there is "pretty much" nothing to fear why are you so paranoid about it?
>>
>>53843372
gotta love how the same people recommending others to use SSDs use "don't use it" as a counter-argument for any bad thing about SSDs
>>
>>53842969
I could live with 256GB of total space since I don't hoard shit anymore.
>>
>>53843278
Not sure about the Pro 1500 but the Intel's 335 series is designed to go out on its own terms, after a pre-determined volume of writes. it does not reallocate sectors and move data elsewhere in reserve to any significant degree, which would increase endurance and longevity by a good margin. The moment it reaches the amount of writes, it becomes read only and expires on reboot. The Intel SSD Toolbox utility shows a good estimate of the device's lifetime though. Samsung Magician shows everything as being A-OK even when the disk is on the verge of failing. Then again that's not really a problem if you monitor S.M.A.R.T. values and know how much has been written on the SSD in total.
>>
>>53843402
What the dicking fuck are you on about. You can store all your porn on an ssd just fine if you get one with a 1TB+ capacity. The other guy is arguing that people can get totally manage with a 128gb ssd granted they have an hdd for storage, i.e. even a 128gb is worth it.
>>
>>53842953
Second this, can't find it anywhere for that price.
>>
>>53843455
anon ended his post with "you don't know how to use an ssd"
that alone changes his whole argument to mean "the only proper way to use an ssd is to get a low capacity one and a mechanical hard drive and just don't use it"
>>
>>53842969
I'm surviving pretty well with 250 GB (HDD).
>>
>>53843494
From an economic standpoint it makes perfect sense. I think his point is that people who expect to completely replace their HDDs (i.e. storage media for movies, images, games) with SSDs is unreasonable at this time given the pecuniary constraints. I'm personally going to wait for Black Friday and grab me a 1tb SSD.
>>
I replaced two dying 5200rpm HDDs with a 7200rpm WD Black and EVO850, and let me tell you, the performance gain is massive. The system boots up in under 20 seconds compared to a minute+ on the old setup.

Get the SSD OP, you won't regret it. Be sure to not abuse by using it as a media storage device though (i.e. torrents/movies.)

Going to need an HDD cooler for the WD Black though.
>>
>>53843379
I'm not paranoid. I'm just trying to make this unused space useful.
I don't have that much data to store on it. I got this 240GB SSD instead of 120GB because I want it to last as long as possible. Money isn't an issue here. I'm not denying the fact that SSDs are degrading over time and they can break, I'm saying it's not relevant at all if you know how this technology works and how to use it properly.
Also the possibility of head crash on my secondary HDD is much higher than SSD corruption.
>>53843415
This problem doesn't exist if you got Intel SSD Toolbox installed. If something is going to fuck up the service is going to notify you about potential problems. I've NEVER had a single problem with Intel SSDs, and I got a lot of machines to play with in my company.

dude, clean this shit up. If you want this SSD to last some time you should leave at least 10% of free space to let the wear leveling do its job
