I tried gentoo once, but I managed to fuck it up after a few months and picked up arch.
I'm addicted to the lazy, insecure piece of shit that I love: AUR.
Because of the exact dichotomy you demonstrate between "meh hobby" and "I'm better than you". You try being better than everyone else and once you can't argue back, you hide behind "wellll it was just a hobby anyway what are you some kind of no funner".
Same exact shit with BSD, haiku, we have those threads sometimes where it starts off with "Why aren't you using BSD, I'm better than you" and by the end of the thread, only 50 posts later, it's "wellll it was only for servers so fuck off". Only difference is arch is linux based and tries to fit in with the other distros.
Will you keep this "muh hobby" opinion the next thread we have where you're talking about how so much superior it is? Of course you will not. You'll say it's applicable for anything as long as you're "smart" but the moment you lose that argument you'll be right back here at hobby.

The reason why people shit on Arch has nothing to do with the distro being bad/good. I bet some of the shitposters either a.) have never even gave a shit about gnu/linux or b.) use Arch themselves. It is solely because the shitposters are bored and know that the Arch fanbase is sensitive. It takes little effort at all to shake up the hornets nest and thus they keep posting.

I used arch. I wanted to play SNES. Snes9x wouldn't start, ZSNES is too old and buggy, and higan errored and froze and every game.
I used ubuntu, and all of them work fine.
Arch has lots of broken packages, or packages that require weird work arounds. It's not a good distro. Debian is better if you want to start from minimal base.
That said, arch is fine other than the broken packages. They don't have enough developers and can't maintain projects well enough.
