My brother just ordered a new phone and it will arrive the next week so i'll take his old HTC One X to replace my dumbphone. I want to know what would be the best things to do on this phone? Like, i'm already looking on XDA forums and instantly saw the Cyanogenmod 12.0 rom availble but i'm not sure if that's the best to flash on it or if i should put something else like the Resurrection Remix rom. Any advice would be welcome mostly if you have experience with that phone. Also as the last question i'd like to know if i should just use my primary gmail account or if i should create a throwaway just for it. Thanks!

stay away from cancerous custom ROMs. Only acceptable option is the latest CM stable.
>>
>>53829541
CM12 is 5.0.x while other stable roms are 5.1.1. I don't really now what to get. Anything will be fine for me as long as it won't eat my battery or is full of annoying bugs
>>
>>53829642
There's a reason for that. You need to choose who to trust: the entire CM team or some random french developer
>>
>>53830056
I guess CM shall be then. Thanks anon

Fuck CM. Sense is fine

>unlock bootloader via htc developer account (easy to set up and do)
>Flash TWRP
>Flash a superuser
>Flash Xposed
>Flash AdAway
>Make a back up on TWRP
>Flash a Sense ROM
>Use RumRunner to s-off
>Restore back up

And you're good to go
>>
>>53830830
I'm undecided again i guess. All i want is lollipop, root and decent battery. I don't really care about everything else. CM12 seems good enough tough. What's sense like?
>>
>>53830857
Sense is easily the best non-AOSP interface

Get decent battery by Greenify and Amplify (invest a couple of hours into knowing how to best utilise them)

You'll have 4 hours SOT in no time... More than even the latest flagships get when unrooted. And that's without losing any functionality

Oh, and look into Tasker to save battery too (such as automating only allowing Location to be on when certain apps, that you decide, are opened)
>>
>>53830904
Yea i already plan on using Greenify and Tasker, i don't know what Amplify is but i'll check that out. Is sense really worth it over stock? I'll probably use another launcher anyway
>>
>>53829163
Look for ARHD.
It's sense with less bloat and more features.
Super easy install and all that.

I have that phone in my hand and I use it as a MP3/PodCast player

PowerAMP and PodKicker are the apps I use.
>>
>>53831035
That looks like but that's kitkat, right?
>>
>>53831088
The image is dated so I'll post how it looks on my phone.
>>
>>53830964
Yeah, just use Nova or whatever - that covers the downfalls. Some actually prefer Sense to AOSP

Amplify is actually better than Greenify in my experience (but maybe I've just had a weird biased problem with fucking Google wakelocks)

This is how it looks like.
>>
>>53831205
>how it looks like
"how it looks" or "what it looks like". Please choose one.
>>
>>53831227
I'll choose "How it is looked like" then.
>>
>>53831096
>>53831205
Thanks, i appreciate the screenshots! I wish there was a flashlight shortcut in the notifications window there but that's ok. I'd prefer lollipop though. I gotta think about it. Also i misspelled "nice" for "like" in that post there.
>>53831159
Makes sense. Which problems did you have just for curiosity?
>>
>>53831522
Oh, no worry, I just hold the power button and the flash light is on.
It's in the settings that comes with the ROM.
>>
>>53831543
Now that's a nice shortcut i never thought about. I don't know if that mod is worth it over CM12 or other mods with Lollipop

>>53831560
Well it not being Lollipop might be a turn off for some but in the end it's what you choose.
>>
>>53831610
I'll have to compare the ROMs and decide. This one looks very good though. Thanks for the info
>>
Don't use cm, use a rom made for the device.
>>
>>53832261
But it's on XDA and developed for the device. I don't get what you're saying
>>
>>53832833
CM is a ROM made for Samsung devices first then simply works "decent" on the other phones since it's so barebone.
>>
>>53829163
God the One X was such a gorgeous phone.

Why can't HTC design phones anymore?
>>
>>53832892
Okay thanks for explaining. I might settle for ARHD for now although i'll research more
>>53832914
But for real, the only thing that this is missing is the accelerometer, 1 more gb of ram and you've made the perfect phone for me. The size is perfect, the screen looks good enough at least to me, it has 32gb internal with microsd slot, is good looking and has a Tegra 3
>>
>>53830830
>Sense
>not hideous
>>
>>53832963
Or the HTC One M7, remove the stupid HTC logo, use only onscreen buttons, maybe make a version with a bigger screen and you've got a perfect phone.
>>
>>53832993
Just googled it. It looks gorgeous indeed but why the fuck would someone remove a button to put a logo
>>
>>53830904
Threadly reminder you can now install sense on any phone you want HTC or not.

There's no MicroSD slot on the HOX.
It's a good screen that have vivid colors, but I love the HTC Legends OLED, wish the HOX had that as well.

Fun facts:
In Sense 4, the Menu/Home/Back button is actually still part of the monitors touch screen so if you swipe left and right and do it as you move your finger to those three buttons as if you where up on the screen.
>>
>>53833017
Because HTC.
>>
>>53833056
I was pretty sure it had one. Nevermind then. I never had the chance to see a OLED screen yet but i heard they're quite nice
>>
>>53833017
>>53833067
If the rumors of HTC making the next Nexus devices are true, maybe Google will smack some sense into their design team.

Huh, I posted the wrong image.

Here's my HTC Legend that have OLED and as you see, black is truly black.
>>
>>53833166
Looks cool although i can't really tell from my IPS monitor
>>
>>53833470
If it was a LCD screen on the phone the black would light up which it doesn't now.
>>
>>53833470
Nigga do you not know how OLED works?

Black is black because those pixels aren't active. There's no backlight for the entire screen, only the pixels in use light up.
>>
>>53833490
>>53833513
I know but black pixels do light up on my monitor. But anyway, doesn't that cause burn in issues somehow?
>>
>>53833559
There is the potential for burn-in, yes. On-screen buttons were especially dominant in the olden days, however I believe the problems have been vastly improved.
