Hey guys I just got back from visiting my dad, he's 60 something years old and we did a scan on his Windows Vista computer. Is this a record? The best thing is he has Avast and this shit still shows up.
So, post stories of troubleshooting relatives/old people's computers I guess. Favorite virus I found was "FunWebTools". Also around 500 toolbars and various adware. Don't forget the dreaded Conduit!

antiviruses don't actually do anything
Give your dad some tips about trojan-free pornsites and he's computer will be fine.
Also install Linux or something, dads only read news and mails anyway.

He does use a poker program which is Windows only and bets on horses a lot. I should also mention he got a laptop with Windows 7 (I disabled updates for him) which had no viruses at all, but he's stubborn and still uses the Windows Vista computer with fucking 2 GB of ram.

OP, got old man around the same age, I foresaw the shit ahead years ago and installed Debian, noscript, adblock to browser and updated hosts from MVPS.
He sure didn't like the interface and missed stuff like Microsoft Office but nowadays he can do everything and more with it. Also I try to teach him stuff every now and then.

Something? Like a meat pie? Or a lawnchair?
Not a record.
I ran MBAM on a client's machine and got 10K something. I think it was 10,394
That's the highest I've seen.
Not even close. My dad's laptop he borrowed from my uncle had 10K+ as well.

Damn. Me and him had a laugh though, could only find people with around 1k searching around on Google. Somehow it's satisfying to see that 1/100 objects are a virus.
