Is there a modern laptop that isn't shit? Everything Lenovo makes these days seems to be terrible.

No.
Mostly I'll be using AutoCAD programs with a laptop.

Assuming you have lots of money:
>Surface Book
>Retina MacBook Pro

Dell Inspiron 7000s didn't look too bad, especially given their price.

Just got a T460s and it is really nice. Beautiful screen, good keyboard (not as nice as my T420s keyboard but still one of the best of currently available laptops). Battery has been great so far.
Runs Debian just fine although the 4K screen can be a bit shit in some apps. Windows 10 works great though if that is more your thing.
spec: i5, 16GB RAM, 500GB M.2 SSD.

if you get this one, as soon as you bring it home, disassemble, and reduce the tension on the hinges!
I mean actually take off the hinges form the display part, and grab a 7-11 mm socket (forgot which one I used, probably 7) and loosen it 1-2.5 turns, just so that you can open the laptop with one finger, but not so loose as to have it be unstable.
Seriously, this laptop falls apart from daily use if this is not done

2015 was a bad year for laptops. Go back to 2014 or wait for Zen.
Skylake a shit. Soldered only, no socket.
tfw stuck with haslel for ever. Good thing I can put a 4940XM in my trusty e6440.

Have it, like it, don't love it, but it was half-off where Inbought it. The hinges are really tight like >>53815404 said though. And >>53814796 I did a clean win 10 install on mine and I haven't noticed anything fishy (pun intended) yet.
hp spectre x360. not like anyother hp. rock solid aluminum frame, toucscreen, folds flat, fast. no graphics though. 9/10
