Cyanogenmod really depends on who's maintaining the distro. On some platforms it's amazingly stable and rock solid. On others it's barely workable. I'm lucky enough to own a device (S4 mini) with a very stable version of 4.4, but others are not so lucky.

Lol it's even worse for low end devices (unless you get a really popular one like the moto g). Low end devices tend to be less popular than flagships, so the only people making ROMs for them are pajeets who can't afford anything better. And that's if you can find one that's fully compatible at all. Low end android phones tend to be rebranded for different carriers, and they like to make small changes that break compatibility with ROMs for the original model.

I haven't had a single problem with Cyangenmod.
Calls don't drop, battery lasts 3 days and only takes an hour to fully charge, and the on system music app is pretty damn good too.

Bullshit. I have Galaxy Mini 3, running a unoffical port of CM11. Bloatware on Low-end Android devices with tiny ram, and storage is a nightmare. Flashing a custom rom improves the performance, removes a lot of bloatware, and leaves more for storage.
The only issue that I had with custom roms is that I couldn't run xposed modules without boot looping the phone, but factory reset fixes that problem.
CM without Gapp+flashed freecygn is a godends.

S3 CM13 user here, its up and down, battery life was attrocious on like, february build, Im currently at 20160329-Nightly and most shit work flawless, camera, battery life, wifi and 3G connection, no issues, previous roms had problems but this one is working great for me.
