Best, most professional looking, no fuss distro out there tbqfh familia. I'm using 15.10 myself.

What's the difference? Why not Xfce in Mint?
>>

xfce has now be decapitated by mate.

>>

Yeah I just thought 3 year LTS & it's easier to find help articles for a linux retard like myself using 14.04.
>>
>>53810284
I don't.
If you can configure i3 to be useable, you should be able to configure kde to not be bigger than you need.
>>
The lightweight Fedora spins are pretty good too. XFCE, LXDE and MATE (I don't care if that's not how some are capitalized). I like GNOME but if I had to I'd use Cinnamon, MATE, LXDE and XFCE in that order.
>>
>>53810315
This I can't express how much I want a full DE that has native tiling...
>>
>>53810389
why cinnamon? genuinely interested.
>>
Use Debian. It's way better and faster than mint and ubuntu.
>>
>14.04
But 16.04 LTS is out in 20 days.
>>
>>53810411
>4 LTS is out in 20 days.

I have all of my stuff on a 2tb wd os on a 128gb sd. I'll just wipe and reinstall.
>>
>>53810403
i dont get why there isnt one, i dont give any shit about having to add a line to start fucking nmapplet or to enable my media keys

i just want tiling
>>
>>53810409
Stable, Stretch or Sid?
>>
>>53810409
cite genuine reasons or it's just another ass holes baseless opinion bruh.
>>
>>53810411
you're absolutely right I should have just unplugged my pc and waited 20 days.
>>
>>53810429
Like tiling is so much more efficient than traditional window management, looks better, and doesn't require a lot of power to use...I just want the features and cohesiveness of a DE but with the lightness and window management like a tiling WM is that so bad?
>>
>>53810486
you do know you can use any window manager on any DE right?
Like you could run i3 on kde, mate, unity, xfce or gnome.
Some wms hotkeys may break some functionality and some wms doesn't tie that well together with others but it is possible.
>>
>>53810160
welcome to the Xubuntu mustard race
>>
>>53810441
I'm using Debian "jessie" with lxde. Consuming 200mb after the start up process. Stable version.
>>
>>53810564
you big jessie?
>>
>>53810532

I don't want some franken DE that hardly works though

Made the exact same switch after the website hack, no regrets.
>>
Why not use Trinity? Just as lightweight, and is still supported and being developed.
>>
>>53810474
Why not? I sometimes walk away from the screen for days on end. Feels good not being tied to social media and the cellular botnet.
>>
>>53810408
For me it's just comfy and familair offering most of the "bling" of GNOME in a more traditional desktop. I'm pretty addicted to GNOME these days. It took GNOME 3.x quite a while to get worth a shit though...in my opinion.
>>
>>53810532
yeah this requires more tinkering than you might think

Is Debian XFCE more stable than xubuntu? I've been suffering from distro upgrades fucking up everything and I know Debian releases are fewer in between.
>>
>>53810455
You are absolutely right. I'm a developer and used to love mint. Testing different distributions I noticed a big difference in terms of speed and memory consumption between mint, lubuntu and debian. It's a subjective opinion from someone who uses eclipse, brackets ide, chrome, test servers and some debugging tools.
>>
What's the general consensus on Manjaro (KDE)?
>>
>>53810575
what ?
>>
>>53810584
I've just got rid of one hobby distro, don't need another.
>>
>>53810835
Manjaro is unfinished amateurish shit
>>
>>53810640
Me too. I get drunk walk out don't do any work fail to get paid and lay shivering in the woods soaked by rain, piss and my own tears. Good times.
>>
>>53810537
How well does xubuntu handle release upgrades?
>>
>>53810927
So Arch Linux it is? I'm bailing from Windows 7 back to Linux before upgrading to Windows 10. I am trying to to figure out where to best go. I'd like KDE and a rolling-release distro; Arch Linux seems ideal I guess.
>>
>>53810641
I hate that cinnamon pulls in Nautilus and other Nome software
>>
>>53810160
I got a little chuckle from your tabs, thanks for the laugh champ.
>>
Why are noobs always installing 14.04? Don't you realize that 16.04 comes out in a month? At least get 15.10, 14.04 is ancient garbage.
>>
I'm using mint already and i don't care about all what's wrong with it? No use the argument of being compromised because the team fixed it on one day already
>>
>>53810943
i handles them very well, but i only upgrade on LTS releases.
>>
>>53810160
wtf didnt u hear microsoft now run ubuntu programs?
>>
>>53810992
That's what I meant. I'm debating between debian stable and Ubuntu lts
>>
>>53810182
learn to enable VSYNC without compton fagget
>>
>>53810160
Why the fuck does does XFCE have UI tearing?
With compton running (using glx) no individual program will have tearing, but the UI will still tear.
It's rrally bizzare. This happens on both my gentoo and my arch rigs.
>>
>>53810984
This.

I guess they do it because "Muh stability"
>>
>>53811000
i only use debian stable for servers, on my laptop i dual boot fedora/latest ubuntu release, but on my trusty desktop i only roll Xubuntu LTS so I would recommend Xubuntu LTS over debian stable for daily driver
>>
>>53810984
>14.04 is ancient garbage
It's stable, and you can enable backports for up-to-date repositories.
>>
>>53811012
What gpu do have carlos? I have the same problem and I am on Intel.

>>

>>
>>53811101
It happens on both intel and nvidia robbie.
Both free and non free drivers
>>
>>53810160
xubuntu is pretty nice
no real reason to use Mint, it's pretty much Ubuntu but with a different default DE and a couple of dumb changes (in particular, the Mint team is too incompetent to be bothered support in-place upgrades, even if wipe and install is better)
>>
>>53811229
Fucking hell then
>>
Fuckin ace OP
Xubuntu is great
>>
>>53811246
Thats ok katherine, you can rice and strip down KDE to make look and feel like XFCE. And you'll get actual compositing.
>>
>>53811263
Forgot picture I was so excited to see someone else shilling Xubuntu on here!
>>
>>53811280
Just install arch or debian with xfce you retard.
There's no point to installing all that bloat.
>>
>>53811327
Typical Louise, getting buttmad she doesn't have a nice OS
>>
>>53810817
Wow. Where can I pay tribute oh mighty one, also is PayPal OK?
>>
>>53811085
This. Some people are fucking retarded I bet they queue for the latest apple products.
>>
>>53810160
I want to use Xfce but I fucking hate how the window resizing is so shit with its 1 pixel hit box on the window edges. If it had the same hit box as Ubuntu/Unity or Cinnamon I would use Xfce.

Yes I know I can alt+rmb but fuck that. I want to be able to do it without needing to use alt!
>>
>>53811130

Knew you had a fast rig, is it fast enough to max out crysis 2.

You've got to make a decision update xubuntu or make do with 14.04 Lts.

Remember your daily driver, daily driver oh so stable felt like you were drunk. Your hand wrapped round your razer mouse.

Knew you had a fast rig is it fast enough for all your shit posting?
