Both google and microsoft sell mail info. Google has always done that as far as I'm aware, microsoft only on newer accounts (2008 or so and later). But overall, microsoft accounts are a lot better. Whereas people are magically constantly trying to login into my never-used gmail account from taiwan and china, my hotmail account never had any problem.
