Who else is preordering the Model 3?

Also Model 3 reveal general thread

https://model3.tesla.com/

Show starts at 8:30 PST
>>
Tesla is the only electirc car i would consider buying and inly cause they dont cut off the nose and make it look idiotic japanese semi tier shit
>>
>implying anyone here has the money to preorder a car
not that I don't want one, they are pretty cool, but they don't have dealerships in my shithole country and importing them isn't just economically feasible
>>
>>53799130
Try again, but this time in English.
>>
If I had the money I don't think I'd buy one of these because you just know all sorts of thugs will be trying to steal it, sitting on it and taking pictures etc
>>
>>53799109
I'll wait for all the early adopters to buy it while they iron out the kinks and get one in 2 years.
>>
>>53799166

Yep. All the same technologies as the Model S. It can't navigate autonomously yet, but it can drive hands free down the highway in traffic.

>>53799962
Well, time to get off my ass and finally get the moped I've been thinking about purchasing. No insurance or registration necessary in my state so it should be safe after self driving cars start getting released and insurance prices start going up. Likely won't see a push to change the laws for a while either as a < 100 lb vehicle with a top speed of 30 MPH won't do that much damage if it does hit something.
>>
I'll probably get one.

With US$100 million of his early fortune,[59] Musk founded Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, in June 2002.[60] Musk is chief executive officer (CEO) and chief technology officer (CTO) of the Hawthorne, California-based company.

This, I drive a Chevy Cruze 2011 LT that I bought last year with 7k miles for $8000 and it costs $25 to fuel it for a full work week. There's no way I could justify a 30K car.
>>
>>53800071
How much cheaper are the Teslas used usually?
>>
>They already have 150k preorders
So they've basically broken the auto market
>>
>>53800202
More expensive than new

It probably is different now especially for the ~3-4 year old Model S ones, but due to the time it takes from reservation to delivery, "used" Teslas actually used to cost more than reserving a new one. Might still be happening with the Model X now.

>>
>>53799235

why the fuck are people buying something that won't be released until 2 years from now?
>>
>>53800966
A number of reasons. An affordable car that comes after a 4 door saloon that does 0-60 faster than a Ferrari F40. Then a family friendly 4x4 that still does 0-60 faster than an F40.

Now they are offering up a car that drives itself, looks like a non-shit Porsche for less than a shit-tier BMW 3 series. Oh and you get to charge your car up for free for the rest of your life, or plug in at home and save 6 times what you'd pay for equivalent gasoline prices.

That's why people are buying something that won't be released for nearly 2 years.

>>
>>53800966
>>53801084
It is an affordable and seeming good electric car, but the reason that people are pre-ordering it is so they they can get the $7500 tax refund for purchasing an all electric car. The thing is though that the tax refund incentive stops after they sell a certain number of cars, which they're expected to hit before the official launch.

So you're basically paying $1000 up front to save nearly 22% on the car when it launches.
>>
>>53801181
That's only an issue in certain states from what I read. And the majority of Europe has big incentives to go electric; China might well do the same thing since relations between them and the company have improved in the last 18 months.
>>
>>53799109

I preordered today. Will get it in mid-2018.
>>
What the fuck is this shit?
>>
>>53801452
Well yes it does vary on a state by state basis but that's the main reason I've read that people are doing it.
I believe California actually has an $8500 refund too so that's even more incentive.
>>
>>53799109
did you see the ipad they put as the only thing in the car?

no wonder apple thinks they can do it too. i hope they try and the company goes into financial ruin

I guess I shouldn't really complain because I work for a commercial solar installation company, but I will.
These alt energy types aren't profitable, even with all the fed/state/county/local money they get showered over them.

A 35k sedan is still way too niche, and Tesla is still way too unprofitable.
>>
Apparently the autopilot hardware is built into every car but to unlock it in software you have to pay extra. What a fucking disgrace.

Why does nobody mention that the battery is more than half the price of the car and will need to be replaced after a few years?

This is hardly mass-market or even Luxury. It's an expensive economy car.
>>
>>53802014
The people who could afford this car won't be driving it after a few years. It's just a novelty.
>>
>>53802039
it's a cheap car m8, middle class ppl can afford it
>>
Tesla needs to work on reliability. The Japs still make indestructible cars, while American and German automakers continue to churn out garbage. It's sad really, because American automobiles used to be top quality up until the 70s.

Mechanics who deal with electrical are going to make a fortune in the near future. Most of you PC repairfaggots better get learning. No one is going to pay you more than $100 to fix their $300 PC. They will pay you $1000 to replace the LCD on one of these cars though.

This makes no sense in this car, this lack of bottons belongs to sportcars not a computer on wheels.
>>
>>53802514
That's probably my only gripe with Tesla. They look and perform well enough to make electric cars not seem like a joke any more, but I can't shake this feeling that doing away with knobs & buttons in favor of a large touchscreen would be a safety hazard.
>>
>>53800200
I've driven a cruze before. They're shit. Absolute shit. You could have gotten a much nicer Honda Civic for that much
>>
Cannot buy Tesla nor any other electric car. There are no charging stations outside of one own home yet so forget driving anywhere. Also prohibitively expensive, hell even a Chevy spark electric version is at least 50% more than the gas version.

At this point the closest to a viable electric car remains a hybrid.
