Alright /g/ I need some help.
My g3 sometimes charges, sometimes doesn't. It gets hot regardless of if it's charging or not.
When not charging it'll pull around 0.35A from the wall wart.

When it does charge, the battery will run down in around 8-10 hours on its own in standby mode on a fresh install with no installed apps, sometimes battery stats shows phone stays awake, sometimes it shows wifi is active, sometimes it shows no cause for the drain.
This is all with airplane mode by the way.

Sometimes to charge it I have to plug it in and reboot the phone, otherwise it won't detect the charger and won't charge.
When it's off and refusing to charge the red charging led will blink on and off and the battery will show 0% on the screen.

I've tried various roms, both custom and stock, but I have no idea what to do.

I bought this phone 5 months ago second hand and it would really suck if it didn't even last me one year.
>>
I've tested with a bunch of different cables and wall warts.

Feeling really desperate here. Is it fixable?
>>
>>53798388 try fulmonics rom, if not it may be a hardware issue. Open it and check for signs of water damage.
>>
>>53798542
I tried fulmics 6.0 rom, right now I'm on cm 12 but I'm going to try fulmics 5.0 rom.

No water damage as far as I can tell. And it's been working flawlessly for the 5 months I've had it.
Could it be water damage? I have used the phone in the rain a few times when I needed gps or messaging people.

Here's the charging port. Could it be a short circuit?
>>
Just cleaned it out with compressed air, no clear sign of water damage.
>>
>>53799038
Strange. You could try to kdz it back to stock, it could be a bad modem. Or my next guess would be bad battery.
>>
>>53798842
Actually taking a closer look at the photo, that ic near the usb port, is that a photo blemish on it or does it actually look like that?

It looks burnt, doesn't it?

>>53799194
Shit. That explains that.

Any chance of replacing it?
>>
>>53799174
Try wireless charging, see what that does
>>
>>53799207
It could be replaced, IF you can find someone good with hot air, and IF you can find out what it is, and IF you can find a replacement.
>>
>>53799209
Gonna test it now, Just got a wireless charger.

>>53799223
I was thinking more pulling it off and gluing an identical one in place. It's surface mounted, isn't it?

>>53799209
Unfortunately nothing
>>
>>53799239
No glue! Youd probably ruin the board, the whole bottom of the ic may be metal and soldered to the board which would probably ruin the board if you pried it off. You need a hot air station for that. If youre in usa, contact lg, say you got it as a gift about a year ago and wanted to see if it was still under warrenty from the serial number, That worked for my g3
>>
I think they have 15months from manufacture date warranty
>>
Have you tried replacing the battery? Lion batteries can get fucked for a variety of reasons. If and like they either last a long while or they crap or after 2 years or so
>>
>>53798388
Fellow G3 owner here. I see you comparing pics on the inside.

I have two G3s. Would you like me to take a pic and see for you if the IC in question looks like that? Just let me know exactly which IC it is.
>>
>>53799363
There was a picture here >>53799194 and it looks pretty burnt.

>>53799344
The phone gets hotter than usual so I don't think it's the battery.

>>53799269
Damn, that sucks.
>>
>>53799239
Don't.

It is a tiny IC that you will have almost guaranteedly no luck finding a replacement for (because its impossible to identify) and you cant glue SMD devices on what the fuck. That's not how it works. Also good luck positioning it properly when re-soldering it via hot air
>>
>>53799391
I found you a service manual, maybe you can identify the ic. If you can find somewhere to find a replacement, you could have a shop replace it for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/lg-g3-d855-service-manual-t2890900
>>
>>53799255
If you got a wireless charger, did you replace the back pannel with an antenna capable of receiving ? The default one on mine at least needs switched. Check if the sticker connects to two or four
>>
The edge of my Nexus5 started cracking for no reason and I've never dropped the damn thing.
Never buying LG shit again.
>>
>>53799405
Not a bad idea. Will check, I know some guys at a local pc store so I might be able to get it discounted.

>>53799415
Thanks anon, this will always be my plan b since I lack the proper tools
>>
>>53799363
Me again.

Checked my G3s and both of them have unburnt ICs.

It warrants asking... OP, you HAVE replaced the battery, right?
>>
>>53799474
I'm actually back on my Nexus 5 now my g3 is being a bitch. It's been pretty solid for me

>>53799496
Haven't replaced battery.

Does the back of your g3 look like the one on left or right?
>>
>>53799518
It's not a bad phone, I just don't like the build quality of it, my Nexus 4 felt more solid than this hollow piece of shit.
>>
>>53799518
Probably replace the battery before you go doing anything crazy.

I checked the service manual and nothing referenced in the power schematic looks like it relates to that IC.

Right.

>>53799553
The burnt out ic has me worried though.
Really worried. It's labeled 12p from what I can see
>>
>>53799692
>>53799527
It's a d855 international
>>
>>53799692
ICs sometimes look burnt without necessarily being fried. It's hard to judge without actually knowing what the IC is and what it does.
>>
>>53799773
I don't know man, I'm pretty convinced it's not the battery. It was a sudden thing. Just my phone getting hot in my pocket and running down really fast.
Then only sometimes charging up. The heat came from the cpu area, not the battery itself
>>
>>53799825
Put the battery in, see if that ic gets hot
>>
>>53799825
OP you're in luck, managed to find a board diagram in the service manual. Whoever the anon was who posted it, you're a godsend.

Will let you know in a moment what your burnt IC is.

>>

>>53799885
Looked through it. The component in question is labeled as D9201 on the board diagram, and in the parts list, it is:

Location: D9201
Description: Diode, TVS (thats a surge protection diode)
Part Number: EAH62172601

Specification: RCLAMP1255P 12V 13.5V min. 25V 100A 2.5KW SLP2018P6 R/TP 8P 4 SEMTECH INTERNATIONAL AG

If it IS a burnt fuse IC, that would explain a lot of issues.
>>
>>53799840
Plugged it in. No battery icon on screen like its supposed to, it just turns on and boots up.

>>53799973
That does explain a lot.
But what can I do to fix it?
Is it worth it, or should I just upgrade?

>>53799973
Kept looking through the diagrams. It's connected to "Multi_IO_USB3_0".

Whether or not it's denying power from USB is hard to say, though. I don't have enough experience reading circuits for that. Any takers?
>>
>>53800021
Also i should have mentioned, it only charges from my charger with the highest voltage.
>>
>>53800063
https://www.encompassparts.com/item/10393296/LG/EAH62172601/Diode,_Tvs Well there you go OP. If you know someone with the balls and you're willing to take a gamble, there's your part.
>>
Talked to the repair guy, he said it'll probably cost less than $10 if he can get the part, and 50 dollars to replace it.

Fair price?
>>
>>53800103
>$50 to hit something with a hot air gun
Fuck, where does this guy work? I want in on this.

Sell the LG G3 on eBay as functional but for parts with a charging issue. Get $90-$100 for it.
Buy a good, working LG G3. Cost $120-140.

Cost $20-50, GUARANTEED fix, protected by paypal, etc.

Thats your better option.
>>
>>53800097
Do they do Australia?

>>53800034
Thanks for the help anon, I appreciate it.

>>53800148
Australia, lol.

How difficult would it be to fix myself?
It's a fuse, what if I take it out and replace it with a drop of solder?

>>53799973
But if it's a fuse, what's causing the phone to heat up and drain so fast? Didn't op say battery life was reduced to 8 hours with airplane mode and standby?
>>
>>53800242
>what if I replace it with a drop of solder
Bumping for that
>>
>>53800648
If its burnt out and shunting to ground, that short could be the heat and power loss OP described, but even then its a stretch. That's why I'm not recommending OP go at this, we don't even know if the IC in question is behind his issues or even burnt out at all.

here's a thought OP: You have the diagram. Grab a multimeter and test the ic. I'll test mine later in the day and let you know what a normal result is.

>>53800242
>>53801717
Considering it has multiple inputs... no.
